Kash's mind was racing. When the creature turned the last bend, her heart had dropped. Please help me, lady. The night before they climbed the mountains, she had a dream. The golden-eyed lady had sent her a vision of what was to happen. Kash had memorized the paths and tunnels. But what the lady hadn't told her was the floating mountains, and the sheer thousand foot drop. So when the creature turned to face them, she was utterly hopeless as of what to do. We can't fight it. Too big. I'll have to risk the jump. Since last night, she couldn't feel the presence of the lady. I hope she comes back before we reach the halfway mark to the ground. She was planning something. It could be considered bravery or stupidity. She saw Aaron take out a knife. Idiot. He'll get himself hurt again. Who knows if I'll be able to help him without the Lady. Right before the creature was about to snap them in half, she pushed them out the hole. Her mind was too busy to think about screaming. Without the help of a Lady, it was hard, but she channeled her energy and emotions into her mind, like she had felt the lady do inside her. Please let this work. She heard the others screaming as they tumbled through the hole. The wind whipped at her hair, making it hard to concentrate. Curse the bloody wind. She tumbled through the clouds, and saw Kyle falling, just under her.
"Everyone hold hands! " she yelled, the wind tearing the words out of her mouth. Hope they hear me. Kyle's face was full of panic as he stopped his yelling and seemed to understand. Thank the lords. Kyle fumbled through the air, blinded by the clouds, as he tried to reach for the others. She heard Ian grunting as he tried to maneuver himself to reach Kyle. The clouds obstructed her vision, and she was tumbling violently, but she saw the two connect hands. Kyle reached out an unstable hand, trying to hold in a scream. His eyes were red with the effort of opening his eyes in the harsh wind. Aaron? She couldn't see her friend. Oh no no no no. Not him. Please not him. But she knew she had to help the first two as a priority. Then I'll get him.
"Ian! Do you see Aaron? " she yelled through the wind, her voice cutting off as she did multiple flips. Suddenly, the clouds cleared, and she could make out the ground. Oh lord. Panic welled up in her throat. I have to do it now. She closed her eyes, blocking out the panic and fear. Her energy was concentrated on her mind, as she pictured a fearsome dragon. Please let this work without the Lady.
"Hurry up! " Kyle screamed. The ground was getting closer rapidly. With a final tug in her gut, she opened her eyes. A fearsome roar echoed through the mountains. Holy mother.... A huge dragon, painted crimson red, with wings of a bat, scared through the skies. I got more than I bargained for. She heard Ian gasp. It flew at them, claws outstretched. Good girl. It dove straight down, years of experience behind it. It plucked Kyle into one claw, and Ian into the other. Kyle was terrified, and she heard him wiggle around.
"Stop moving! " Ian croaked, gods voice dry and cracked. He seemed at ease with the bird, his expression calm. He's done it before. The Dragon swerved under her and she landed on it with a thud. It knocked the wind out of her. I was probably going a hundred miles per hour. Dam. She tried to catch her breath, and straightened up on it's back. It's steady wings flapped under, she heard it's breath. She felt a strange power in her veins. I was born to do this. Suddenly, she remembered something. Aaron! As if the dragon could sense her thoughts, it dove down. The ground was so close. Too close. It straightened out 20 feet above the ground. She heard Kyle yelling. JESUS. Where is he? Just then she yeard a yell above her. She looked up, the wind in her face. A tiny speck fell down at a ferocious speed. Whoa. It got closer and closer, until she could make out the shape of Aaron. He was screaming at the top of his lungs. The Dragon jerked up again, and caught him square in it's back. He was still screaming for a whole five seconds after he landed behind her. She slapped him playfully across the face, and that brought him back to reality.
"Whoa. " he breathed, trying to get air back into his lungs. He sat up straight and scooted closer to her. She could hear Kyle panting heavily, and Ian snoring in it's grasp. How can he sleep in a time like this? They flew higher into the air, once again covered by the clouds. The steady beat of it's wings was enough to put her to sleep. She fell asleep slowly, still holding onto the dragon's neck. Before she dosed off, she heard Aaron sing, "I can show you the world.... " and he slumped over behind her. His gentle snores, mixed with the cool breeze finally put her to sleep. So much for the Lady's powers.**********************************************
"I can show you the world. "
