Ian woke to the sound of footsteps. He groaned when he found himself sleeping on his stomach, his back sticky. He sat up and to his surprise found himself covered in a layer of ash. In fact, the whole forest was white.
"Kash? " he asked. He stood up, careful not to hurt his back. He felt around himself, and carefully peeled off the sticky layer of ash, leaves and honey. Sap. He corrected himself. She called me an idiot. He stifled a smile. He was always intimidated by Zia, and he figured all girls were like that. She's different though. Not all girls are intimidating. Or traitorous. He didn't allow his mind to wander into those thoughts. I enjoy being around Kash. He looked around and remembered the explosion. The facility.... He straightened up, and had a moment of dizziness. Once it cleared, he walked around searching for Kash. She should be around here somewhere. He finally found her, snoring on her stomach. Alrighty then. He tapped her shoulder and she mumbled something inaudible. I was right. Not all girls are the same. He shook her harder. She didn't budge. Oh my god. She's a heavy sleeper.

"Kash? " he heard a voice behind him. He turned and found Kyle with Aaron on his back.

Ian's mouth dropped. What are they doing here? And why is Aaron on Kyle?

" Kyle?" he asked,  "why are you carrying Aaron?"

"None of your business, scoundrel. Where's Kash? " replied Kyle.

" Ha! You litt-"  he started, before Kash interrupted him.

"Kyle?! " she exclaimed. Well she sure is glad to see him.

She dusted off the ash, and ran to Kyle.
" Are you hurt? How's Aaron? Wait, why is he here? I thought you died!"  she exclaimed, and took a deep breath to calm herself.

"We're fine, muchacha, "  said Aaron,  "how are you?"

"What? Yeah I'm fine. "

She then seemed to notice the ash covered forest.  "What the bloody hell?"   she said incredulously.
Before anyone could explain, Aaron let out a low moan. He's hurt bad, Ian thought.
"Sit him down. "  said Kash.
Kyle reluctantly put Aaron down. Aaron stifled a scream from the pain. Kash got to work on him immediately. She knelt behind him and ordered Ian to get some supplies from the forest.
" Kyle, go with him. "  she said, her voice filled with command.
Kyle glared at Ian and trudged along with him. As they got a little further away from the camp, Ian tried to start a conversation.
"Kyle, why do you hate me?"

"What? I don't hate you. "

" Sure. "

" I don't know Ian. It's just..... "

" Just what? "

" Nothing. "

Ian was silent for a minute. It's about Kash, isnt it? He didn't dare say anything. Kyle continued walking. After a while they started small talk. They exchanged stories about what had happened. Ian told him about how he ended up in the swamp. I'll have to talk to him later. They picked up everything Kash had asked for and headed back. The reached the campsite and found Aaron biting a stick, tears streaming out of his eyes. What the....
"Kash? "  Kyle asked.

" Yeah? Did you bring the stuff? "

" Yeah. "    Ian laid out everything and sat down. He wanted to watch what Kash would do. She's miraculously healed my wounds, there weren't even scars. Can she do it to Aaron? Kyle sat down next to him, and they watched in silence. She slowly ripped a hole in his shirt wide enough for her to see all the gashes. Ian winced when he saw them. Oh my gosh. That's horrible.
Kash didn't flinch. She carefully applied some honey. Tree sap. Then she rubbed it around, while Aaron bit at the stick, crying silently. It must hurt like hell. She carefully took some ash, mixed it with more sap, and applied the sticky mixture on huge leaves. She pasted the leaves into his back, and he splintered the stick. Ouch. She did the same to his shoulder, and face. I can't imagine the pain. After she was done, Ian couldn't help himself so he said, "Aaron, you look like a tree."  Poor Aaron was in too much pain to respond.
Then Kash did something completely unexpected. She started chanting in some ancient language. Ian was too amazed to talk. Kyle watched with his jaw dropped, as her amber eyes turned gold, her body shining with a blue aura. What the hell? Slowly, as if from nowhere, small creatures started appearing. They were small, about the size of his palm, with a long golden spout in the middle, and little branches of white flowing out. What are those? She started chanting louder, her eyes shining a bright gold, her body illuminating a brilliant blue. All Ian could do was watch, as the little floating creatures, gently landed on Aaron, covering his body. They didn't have the same effect as the other things in the forest. They had a peaceful aura, almost godly. How is she doing this? What's going on? The little things bobbed gently on his body, covering his wounds. They started glowing a shade of gold too bright to look at. He could sense the energy growing. Her chanting radiated power, and Aaron glowed brighter and brighter. Suddenly, she stopped. Her golden eyes turned amber again, and she fainted. Ian dove forward before her head could hit the ground. The little critters lifted off Aaron in a blanket of white and gold. Aaron slumped over. What the hell just happened?
