WARNING : VIOLENT CHAPTER AHEAD!! LOTS OF BLOOD! SENSITIVE READERS HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Kash sat up groggily. Where am I? The dirt cave walls were wet, and she was in a puddle of mud. The tunnels. The past days events caught up with her,and she stood up, her head spinning. Ian was dozing off in his guard position. Aaron sat with his back against the wall, his eyes red. Is he... crying? Kyle sat next to him, his hand on his shoulder. Oh dear. She stood up, and walked over to him.
"Aaron? Is everything all right? "
He wiped his eyes fiercely.
"Yeah. I'm fine. No really, I'm great."
"No you're not. Tell me what happened. "
" Nothing. Jeez, you worry too much. "
She put her hand on his, and squeezed it gently. He flinched, his face red." I'm here for you, alright? Anytime you feel like talking, I'm here. " she whispered.
He nodded, his face looking like a cherry. She let go and stood up, the light of the early dawn filtering through the tunnels. Kyle looked at her with support. He doesn't know what happened either.
She shook Ian's shoulder, and woke him up.
"You're a bad guard, " she said. He groaned as he stood up, stretching his muscles. He was about to start talking, when a screech echoed through the tunnels. The creature. Shit. Ian gripped his weapon." Where's it coming from? " he hissed, turning in a slow circle, staring through the tunnels surrounding them. The shriek sounded through the tunnels, making it impossible to know which tunnel it was coming from.
" I don't know! " she said through gritted teeth. The shriek sounded closer this time. It's in all of them. How's that possible?
She turned in a slow circle, back to back with Kyle. Aaron stood with Ian, his eyes red. She stared deep into one of the tunnels, looking for signs of movement. A low growl sounded from the one opposite her. She turned quickly, and stood behind Kyle. She watched, eyes narrowed. A shade of black, darker than the tunnels shadow, moved swiftly, almost missing her eyes. She glanced at Ian. He'd seen it too. Another deep throated growl sounded from the tunnel behind her. She turned, once again back to back with Kyle. A swift movement caught her eye. She found herself staring at two yellow orbs of light, dim and barely visible. Then a clawed hand, gruesome with rotten flesh, stretched out, and placed itself on a rock embedded near the entrance. Bloody crap. It pulled itself forward and into the dim light. It was nasty. It's skin looked like the fur had been ripped off, it's bare muscles oozing. It's face was the only thing with fur. It looked like a hybrid werewolf. It's red meat was bulky, it's teeth yellow, rotten with meat. It's yellow eyes narrowed into slits, and it bared it's teeth. It sprang up, and Kash ducked. She no longer felt Kyle at her back. She turned, and it pounced again. This time on top of her. She struck out with her dagger, as it unbalanced her with it's weight and took her down. It bit at her ferociously, digging it's claws into her shoulder. She stifled a scream, and found her target. She mustered up some strength and struck up with her blades, impaling it's heart with a sick thud. It screamed and slid off her. She could barely stand but she managed it. Her shoulder screamed with pain, and she felt something warm and sticky, dripping. Aaron was fighting viciously, stabbing another one repeatedly. There are more. They've got us surrounded. It fell on him, and he grunted with the three hundred pounds of weight. He rolled under it, his blade slicing into it's guts. It hollered and made the mistake of loosening it's grip on his legs. He kicked up for all he was worth, and dislodged it's claws from his arm. With his blood dripping from his arms, and flesh ripped , he sunk his blade into its forehead, and it slumped over. Another came out of nowhere, and jumped, trying to take Ian by surprise. He drew his sword and thrust it upward, impaling it's throat before it had the chance to land on him. Another one crawled onto the ceiling, and jumped into Ian. He dodged, and it circled him, growling. A dagger flew, and impaled on it's leg. It screeched and turned to face the weilder. Kyle stood, blood oozing from his body, two slumped figures of the hell hounds behind him. He threw another blade and struck it's eyes. It shrieked in an unearthly manner, now partly blinded. Another one crept out of the tunnels, and snuck up on Aaron. It leaped, and took him down once more. He screamed, his shoulder getting torn. Kash sprung forward, two blades flicked into her hands. She threw one at it's side, but it didn't let go of Aaron. He fought viciously under it, slicing it up from underneath. She sliced her dagger across it's back, and that caught it's attention. It leaped off him, and turned to face her. She drew her last weapon, a long blade, Ian had let her borrow. It sprung at her injured shoulder. They're attracted to blood. She dodged under it's body, and thrust up the blade, slicing it's claw clean off. It shrieked horribly, thrashing around. A final blow to the heart ended it's misery. A fire lit up somewhere next to her. A fire? Here? She turned, and gasped. Aaron was on fire. Holy....
"Aaron!! " she screamed." It's alright! I'm fine. It doesn't hurt me! " he yelled as he torched up a hell hound.
" What do you mean it doesn't hurt you!!? You're on fire! " she screeched. He didn't reply, he was too busy turning a hellhound to ash. He stumbled, the wounds and the energy of lighting up draining him. One of the last surviving hounds tried to pounce, but Ian threw his sword before it could give Aaron the final blow. Kash ran and dragged Aaron into one of the nearby tunnels. I hope he's okay. Surprisingly, there were no burn marks on him at all. That was scary, and incredible. She watched as the fight continued. There were three left, and they circled Ian and Kyle. Ian was bloody and torn, but he still had some fight left in him. He growled, sword dripping with blood. Kyle had a shoulder torn up, a gash across his face, and a broken ankle. He was injured and limping. Badly. One of them sprung onto Ian once more, and raked it's claws across his stomach. He screeched, and stumbled. That was his fatal mistake. It bit into his injured shoulder, and he cried out in pain, black spots swarming his vision. Kash ran out, she couldn't help it. She picked up her dagger she had dropped, and went to the nearest body of a hell hound. She scrunched up her eyes. I got this. I have a plan. She cut off one of it's claws, wincing as the blood flew from the gruesome foot of the creature. She heard the battle raging behind her. She carved out the nails, and sat back, soaked in the hounds blood. This ought to do it. She took the five claws and placed then between her knuckles. Time to get nasty. She ran back into a tunnel, edging her way around her target. It had Ian, and was merciless. She spring out at the perfect time , her makeshift weapon raised. She bought it down, hard. The claws dug into its spine, the bent shape of them cutting through it's spine with a sickening thud. It died before it could feel the pain. Her shoulder was oozing blood from her previous wounds. Two hounds remained. She dragged Ian's lifeless body, unnoticed. She laid him gently besides Aaron. This is too much pain and injuries for one day. They were both motionless.
She turned to walk out of the tunnel, when a hell hound came in to block the exit. She heard violent scrambling as Kyle fought the last one. She backed away slowly, trying not to make sudden movements. She crouched next to Aaron and fumbled through his bloody shirt, searching for a weapon. It's my lucky day. She picked up his spare knife. Spare butter knife. Seriously, Aaron? A butter knife? She stood up, just as the hound charged. Fear was welling up in her throat. Her shoulder ached badly, and she could barely stand. With the last ounce of her energy, she decided to throw the knife. I don't want it to come close. The knife flew, and found it's target. It hit the hounds forehead, impaled into it's brain. Blood flew and splattered against her face. Her mind was too tired. Her arm was paralyzed, and her whole body throbbed with pain. She saw Kyle slice the last hell hounds throat, and fall to his knees, completely exposed. Then she blacked out.***********************************************
