Her heart dropped, and her breath caught in her throat. After everything that had been going on, this seemed horrible.
"What?"
"I'm sorry" he snifled
She couldn't believe her ears. She didn't want to believe it. She didn't know any of them much, but she'd seen Aaron injured, and wounded. Though she would never admit it, they hadn't been that mean to her. She needed some fresh air, to think. She walked furiously down the hall, not quite sure where she was going. Kyle called after her to stop, but she ignored him. She randomly chose a door, and swooped inside, locking it.
No. It can't be it. He can't die like this. He's too brave. He has too much of a life to live. She tried to take deep breaths to calm her mind and think clearly. She had to get out of this place, but she couldn't help but feel bad. Don't feel bad, keep your priorities straight, she scolded herself. She only then realized she was in foreign territory. She glanced up, and found that she was in a large circular chamber, made of what looked like wood. Wood? I thought all rooms were metal. There was a huge desk placed in the center, with a wheelchair parked next to it. I've seen that before. Of course. He was on his wheelchair, reading a magazine, as if nothing was happening. What's he doing here? Is this his chambers? Why does he get wood? He completely ignored her, as if she wasn't there, squatting near the door."Hello. I see you have found my room." he said, in the same voice that greeted her when she first came to consciousness in the white room.
"Um, yeah. What are you doing here?"
" Well, I could ask you the same question"
"You brought me here. You talked to me on my first day here. Remember?"
"Ah. Yes. I did indeed. What brings you here? "
"I want answers."
" Answers? For what, my dear? "
" Everything. Why am I here? Why can't I remember anything? Where am I ? Who are you? Why is this place surrounded by that forest with those mutated creatures? Did you notice that the head of the Alphas is missing? Where is she?" she blurted out, unable to keep it all in.
" One at a time, my child."
"Just answer me"
"To answer your first question, all I can tell you is that you are here for a reason. "
" What reason? "
"I'm afraid I can't say"
"Why not?"
He shrugged. "To answer your second question, the forest has always been here. To say the least, it's to make sure no one escapes from here."
"Escape? What are we? Prisoners? What's the need for those monsters? People are dying. How can you do this?"
"It's all been discussed. It's for reasons you won't understand."
"Won't understand?! What is wrong with you people? "
He sighed, implying his impatience.
" For your next question, I don't know where she is. I'm not lying about this one."
"So you were lying about the others? Who are you?"
"I prefer to stay anonymous."
"Your preference doesn't matter. Who do you work with? Why are we here? Who are you? This is the last time I'll ask nicely. "
He laughed.
" You're all the same. All of you. But I cannot give you answers. I'm forbidden to."
"I don't care! Tell me."
"I simply can't. I'm sorry. I'll answer one last question, though. Aaron can be saved"
"Tha-"
"Goodbye, dear. "
And with he simply vanished. Her mind was racing, processing the new information. This isn't some ordinary crisis. Someone did this to us. Aaron can be saved. And this man holds the answers.
" Wait! " she shouted. "Come back! How can I save him?" she was screaming now. She hadn't gotten any of her answers. She was so close to an answer, yet so far away. She had a slight hope now. Maybe. Just maybe it's true. She really could make it out.
Then boom! The door blasted open, and fell of the hinges. It was Kyle."Kyle! What is wrong with you! You could have hit me! "
"Kash?! Are you alright?" he seemed frantic.
"Yes. I'm fine, I'm just trying to deal things"
"Deal with things?!," he said incredulously.
"Yes. I might have some answers!"
"Kash, you were talking to yourself. I'm worried about you"
"Talking to myself? I was talking to the Commander, or so you call him. He hinted something! He said Aaron had a chance. He also said we're here for a reason."
His face was a mixture of emotions. Shock, grief, amazement.
"Where is he, then?" he asked gently.
"He- he just vanished." She knew it sounded stupid.
"Vanished? Kash, that's impossible"
"So are monstrous hellhounds and dangerous jungles responsible for murder"
"What about Zia?"
"He said he can't answer that. He didn't answer any of my questions. He said we're here for a reason. "
"Kash..." he said hesitantly.
"What? "
"Our commander is dead."
