Chapter 28: Tess' POV

Edwin convinced me to stay out a little longer instead of just going home.

"You said your curfew wasn't until 11, so c'mon lets go have a little more fun."

"You know what, you're right, what time is it?"

"Well it's 7:19pm, we still have time, we can go get something to eat and then watch another movie if you'd like, or we can just walk around and just talk."

"I'm gonna need more convincing." I say with a smile.

"Alight, let's make a deal, we can do whatever you'd like, if you give me a kiss."

I just look at him.

"C'mon Tess, I've been trying to kiss you all day and you've just been avoiding me. Tell me what's wrong."

'Don't tell him, make something up.' Oh great, the voice is back. Fine little voice in my head I'll make something up. But what?

"Edwin, it's just...-"

"What is it? You can tell me."

'Tell him that you just don't feel the same after your accident and the concussion is making things hard.'

So I tell him that.

"Why couldn't you just tell me?"

"I didn't think you'd understand. I feel like something big is missing, I feel like my life just isn't complete, have you ever had that feeling? I recall any big events that I'm sure I would remember, like my graduation that was 4 months ago in June. Nothing seems right."

"You're right, I don't know that feeling. I'm sorry. How is your head by the way?"

"I'll live. It just throbs now and then. And you."

"What about me Tess?"

"You seem so different, in a good way, you've changed." He smiles.

"Edwin, I guess you've earned your kiss." I smile back. I start to lean in, and so does Edwin, our lips barely touching, when my head starts throbbing. I immediately back away and rub my template.

"Babe what wrong?"

"Just some small throbbing, no big deal." I smile at him.

"So let's continue. Let's go get something to eat."

We go to eat at a fancy sushi restaurant. While we were ordering our food, I couldn't help feeling like someone was constantly watching me. After a short while, a young man with blond hair and light blue eyes comes up to our table. Edwin seems happy to see him and greets him.

"Ryder, I didn't know you were around here."

"I was just walking around, I got hungry, and I decided to grab something quick."

He seems so familiar. Where have I seen him?

"Oh Ryder, this is my girlfriend, Tess."

"Hey Tess." I shake his hand and he smiles at me, and I smile back.

He seems so familiar. I don't let go of his hand and he doesn't let go of mine. Edwin coughs to get our attention.

"Uh...sorry I'll leave you two alone. Enjoy your meal."

"Thank you Ryder. I'll see you later."

"Alright. Bye Tess."

"Bye Ryder." After he leaves I just stare at the table, I couldn't help but smile. I know I've seen him before?

"Tess you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine."

He gives a me look and I snap.

"What is it now? I can't say 'Hi' to your friends?"

"No it's not that, I just didn't like the way you two looked at each other while you were shaking hands."

"Seriously?! Just because I shook his hand and made eye contact? You're unbelievable Edwin."

"What? I can't worry."

"I shook his hand! No big deal."

"Tess, please let's not make a scene. Not here, not now."

"We'll talk about this later then."

After the meal we walk out and he tries to hold my hand and I don't let him.

"Tess I'm sorry. What do you want me to do?"

"You get so jealous, you have a problem."

"Oh I get jealous? What about you? What if I did that with one of your girlfriends?"

After he said that I stop, and I think about it for a minute.

"I wouldn't know, because I don't remember any of my friends."

He comes up to me and immediately regrets what he said.

"Babe I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You're right I do get jealous, I have to work on that, it's just that I missed you so much and you giving attention to someone else, it just got me a little upset."

"It's fine let's just put this behind us."

After that small argument we went walking to a park near my house.

"It's getting late Edwin, it's close to being 10pm. I think I'll start heading home."

"Wait Tess. You're not going alone I'm going to walk you."

"Okay, that's fine. Let's go then."

We walked in silence for 30 minutes. Not a single word was said. As we're getting near my house I start to get my keys out.

"You're okay though right Tess? About our small argument?"

"Yes Edwin, I said it's fine. Let's not talk about it anymore."

As I'm unlocking the door I get a strange feeling.

I open the door and everything's a mess! The living room is unrecognizable.

"What the hell?" I hear Edwin say under his breath.

"My mom..."

"Tess?"

"MOM!" Photos everywhere tables turned.

"Babe what do you think happened here?!"

"I don't know Edwin. MOM! Where are you?!"

"Tess!" I run upstairs to her bedroom. Edwin behind me.

"Mom! Mom, what happened?!" I ask while I run and hug her.

"I need to tell you something-" I don't let her finish.

"Are you hurt? Who did this?!"

"Tess I have you tell you something, please, I'm fine, Edwin thank you for bringing her home safely."

"Would you like me stay?"

"No Edwin thank you. You should go home."

"Alright Ms. A. Tess?"

"Yeah, I'll, um, walk you to the door."

Once we're at the door Edwin, once again tries to kiss me, and I back up immediately.

"Okay Tess, I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"

"Okay"

After I close the door I just stand there not being able to process if this is all a dream or if this really happened.

I run back upstairs. I sit beside my mom on her bed.

"Mom, what happened?"
