Keisha's POV
"Do you know the funny part of it all?"
"Unless you tell me ma'am" I'm trying to concentrate on work but Rita won't let me. She can't stop talking about how happy she is that the family dinner she accompanied Larry to didn't come out bad at all. His family is fond of her. That makes me happy too because it has given me peace from listening to her unending disappointments.
"It's their maid that I have a problem with"
"Why would you have a problem with a maid" I refused to look up at her. She's wasting my time because of maid.
"Because she doesn't like me. I have a feeling she has eyes for my man" I smiled. Insecured bitch.
"Does a maid matter?" I put the tablet down.
"Not until she want what I want and have." She said.
"Don't let her be a problem. He could have gone for her for the fact that she's not far from his reach but he still didn't""You think so?"
"Can't you see so?" I said I a bit of a high tone.
"Oohh girl?" She touched her chest dramatically. "Why the sudden change in mood?"
"Forgive me Rita bit I'm trying to concentrate." I said honestly.
"Are you sure it's only because of that? "
"I don't know of anything else that can get me in a mood like this apart from work."
"You miss your man. Just admit that you miss him" I chuckled.
"Jayden has been gone for a week now but he's not the reason I'm this way.""I doubt" she sat on the visitors seat.
"Okay you can continue doubting. As you can see I have a company that have been left under my care to run so you can go now." I stood up and walked to the door to open it for her.
"You are welcome for taking your anxiety on me." she paused in front of me.
"Your man is gone, your man is gone and he's never coming back" she sung.
"Rita why didn't you warn me that you're a witch?" I refused to laugh at the show she is throwing in front of me. She's just a pain reliever.
"Please relax okay? He'll be back in a year time. You know how time runs fast like a horse these days right?" She cupped my face in her palm.
"Enough go!" I pushed her out and banged the door. I rested my back on the door and slide downwards to sit on the carpeted floor. For the seven days that Jayden has spent in Nigeria, I only heard from him on the first two days of his stay. He mostly complained of not hearing me properly at his end when I speak and the network being very bad. His phone has been out of reach since his second stay. He hasn't tried calling me with a different number either. Jamera cries often that she want to see him and it gets worse when I scold her for doing something wrong. She'd cry and mention his name and would later fall asleep. We miss him dearly. Dad said he's fine and I'm wondering how he got in touch with him while I haven't heard from him for five days now. The worse of it all is that he left his business under me. For the seven days that he has been gone, I chair board meetings. Meetings don't start till I show up and it ends immediately after I say so. With his PA's assistance, I can't complain much. Concentrate. I stood up from the floor and rushed to the intercom."Yes?"
"You have a call from the Miltmore mansion." Rita said.
"Okay direct it to me"
"Right away ma'am" I rolled my eyes at how formal she has become after she was done teasing me. I received the call right when the caller was directed to me."Keisha" mum's voice didn't sound right at her side.
"Yes mum, what's wrong?"
"I can't discuss it with you over the phone. Stop whatever you're young and get home now, please child"
"Mum I'm I was in the middle of something when you called. I'll wrap up and be with you as soon as I finish."
"Lakeisha, since I gave birth to you I've never asked you for even a favour and can't do this little one for me?" Her tone was flat.
"Mum I never said that I won't show up. Just forget about what I said of wrapping up before coming. Give me up to fifteen minutes and I'll be there." I hanged up without saying bye and picked my stuff's. I used the private elevator and it took me to the basement where the company's chopper is. I boarded it and the ever ready pilot took us off the ground. Whatever is making my mum sound that isn't good. First is Jayden problem then Jamera bothering me to bring her father back to her and now another family drama loading.I got down from the chopper and headed to the door. Mum is already standing at the entrance. It reminds me so much of the last time I visited home. That was the exact day I divorced.
"What's it Mama?"
"Your brother is back" she said. Isn't she supposed to be in the kitchen preparing food for his welcome home party?
"I suppose you must be very happy now that you teddy bear is back?"
"I'd have been if he isn't in the study with his dad, having a heated argument." She broke down. Why the fuck did Lucas come down here if he has not worked on how to control his anger issues, specifically when he's around dad? Those two barely get along because Lucas does not want to take up his responsibility as the next head of the family's company. Dad is has had his limit of going on the easy way with him. Whatever Lucas' reason is for coming here, work is clearly not part of it.Mum stepped away from the door and I opened it to go inside.
"I said I'm not ready Pop." Lucas' American accent flood in the entire building. I'm sure by now he has gotten a slap from Dad. He hates such tone.
"I sent you to the best business school in the world so you can take up what's rightfully yours and you're telling me you're not ready?"Dad was calm when he spoke. He's clearly hurt.
"Pop, I came to have a good time with my family and if you continue to hunt me with this same argument, I'll leave earlier than I planned to stay."
"Son! Don't you dare walk out on me!" Lucas banged the door. I folded my arms and waited for him to descend the stairs.
"Finally, something to calm my storm. Sister!" He opened his arms wide climbing down.
I met him halfway through to hug him.
"I've missed you big brother. My twinnie" I hugged him tightly.
"Me more hunny." I broke the hug and led him to the couch. Mum ceased the chance to climb up to comfort her husband.
