"Curled hair done!" She says and I puff my hair in the mirror. "I like it." I smile and she rubs my shoulders leaning down next to my head looking in the mirror. "Jo, you look insanely gorgeous natural, don't get me wrong like I'm so jealous. Though, I would love to see you in makeup!" she claps.
I turn around facing her. "There's no way, I'm not allowed-"
"They won't see it will they?" she says and puts her hand on her hip. "But-" I begin before she places her finger over my lips. "Nope, you're living free tonight." she spins me back around and I sigh. "You're going to look amazing!" I just roll my eyes and smile. In ways I'm actually excited to come out of my comfort zone and do something different, in some other ways...I'm scared to death. Genuinely scared that my parents will find out even though this is a party and they will have no clue. If they knew I was going to this party, I'd be dead, literally dead. I'm breaking basically my parents have told me not to do, in other words breaking their rules. Do I feel guilty? Yes, 100% yes. Am I having fun? Yes, 100% yes.
"Alright, are you ready?" Mercy says having me turned around so I can't look at myself. "Yes!" I say. "Are you sure?" she says and I bounce up, "Yes!" she spins me around and I look at myself. "Oh my-" I begin and place my hand on my chest. How is this me?
She added some powder under my eyes and some glitter and light shade eyeshadows and little eyeliner along with some mascara and topping it with some lip gloss. "Told you Jo, you look hot." she snaps.
"Wow, how is this even me?" I touch my cheeks. "It's always been you Jo, just a different version of yourself." she smiles and I stand up. "I brought a skirt and-" I begin before she places her hand out. "What? Uh no, you're wearing something in my wardrobe tonight."
"What!" I say crossing my arms. "You already did my makeup and are making me go to this party, I'm not wearing your clothes, especially in public?" I point to the ground. My instinct is telling me, wear the clothes. Then my other instinct is telling me, do not even touch them. I love Mercy's clothes on her but they just wouldn't look good on me, they aren't me and I would never wear what she wears.
"Come on Jo! I'm sorry this is a party not a church gathering okay," she says. "Hey," I say but she quickly talks again, "I didn't mean it like that. You're going to wear those jeans of mine with rips in the just the knees, and this long sleeve white top." She holds up to her. "Uh-huhhh" she smiles.
"No way. I'm not wearing ripped jeans." I cross my arms.
"Fine here is pair of light blue jeans with no rips." she says and shoves them in my hands. "I'm gonna curl my hair, do my makeup then put on my red dress, you better be in that outfit by the time I'm done."
I just groan and fall back on her bed.
About five minutes later of overthinking, I get up and change into the jeans first. I pull them up as much as I can and the look amazing on me might I say. They show my hidden curves perfectly and I wish I could now show them off more, but there's no way I could ever. I then throw on the long sleeve white top which is fitted on me but fits decent. I squirm in the weird feeling of never wearing something like this before. Something so fitted and tight. It looks good on me though, I just feel a little odd. "And you better be-" Mercy says turning around applying mascara. "Oh my god, Jo!" she gets up with her hair curled and her tight red dress on along with the black tights. "You look, just wow!"
"I feel odd wearing this shirt." I admit trying to pull it down even though it doesn't show any of my stomach. She comes behind me in the mirror hugging me. "You're amazing just the way you are, just I wanted to try some different things with you okay? Don't be mad at me please, if you don't feel comfortable you can wear what you brought and change your makeup-" she begins and I turn around. "What? No way, I feel fine with this!" I smile and place my arms on her shoulders. "Jo, are you sure? I just feel bad and I don't want you to think I'm changing you-" she begins and I shake my head. "Of course your not! If I truly didn't want to do something believe me, I wouldn't be here right now. It feels nice to try different things and you're not changing me. If anything, I'm changing myself." we both let out a laugh and just hug. I'm so glad I met Mercy, she's always been there for me, well with the things she knows. She's made my life so much better and she's helping me try new things and figure myself out and I'm glad to call her my best friend. "I love you Jo, okay?" she says and I nod. "Love you Merc." I smile and she places her hands on my shoulders. "I almost forgot!" she says and runs over to her vanity and pulls out something. "Turn around and lift your hair up." she says and I do as she says.
