( theres a lot of talk about self harm , suicide , and mental health )

Ever since the ball, Maria and Eliza have been seeing each other in private. Charles had grown suspicious of his sister leaving late at night or avoiding events that would take a day's trip, events that she loved.

"Ria, we have an invite to a new ball," Charles said, leaning on the door frame. He opted out of his normal prince outfit for a simple linen shirt and breeches.

"Really? Who's ball?" Maria asked, sitting on her bed. She was in a simple dress, a red one.

"Sa- Mr. Seabury's again," Charles said.

"Charlie, why do you keep slipping up Mr. Seabury's name?" Maria asked with a small smile.

"No reason, why do you keep avoiding literally everything that'll take a long time?" Charles countered.

"Lie to me, I lie to you. Tell me the truth, I tell you the truth. Sibling pact, remember?" Maria said. Charles turned red and weighed the options in his head.

"Samuel and I are fairly close friends," he said, trying to keep a straight face.

"Close friends or more?" Maria asked.

"... Promise to tell no one?" Charles said. Maria nodded and Charles sighed softly.

"Illegal boyfriends, so now you tell me why you keep avoiding everything," Charles said.

"Oh, wow, the same thing actually, except I have a girlfriend," Maria said. Charles stayed quiet before laughing a bit. He turned and grabbed a quill off of Maria's desk.

"Two royal homosexuals. Maybe father should've been around more often," Charles said.

"You might have daddy issues, but I don't since you were a cool almost dad to me," Maria said.

"Ew, don't call me your almost dad," Charles said. He was writing something against the door frame.

"Okay, lame-ass older brother," Maria said with a playful smile.

"I'm pretty sure a lame-ass older brother wouldn't do this," Charles said before throwing the invitation into Maria's lap. His handwriting was written all over the back. Maria picked it up and read the whole thing.

"We could maintain our relationships, I marry your girlfriend, you marry Samuel. Samuel's 2nd in line, I don't know where your girlfriend is, but she would need to move here seeing as I'm a man and the first in line."

"I don't know if you would like to marry her, but she's also a second in line," Maria said.

"If you can trust her, so can I," Charles said.

"She's Eliza," Maria said. Charles went quiet and took a seat in Maria's desk chair.

"A marriage to settle a peace between our kingdoms, I'll make Father believe he came up with the idea first," Charles said.

"That won't be hard, he thinks everything was his idea," Maria said.

"Fair, but would he like it?" Charles asked.

"Probably as much as you would like it. But we should talk this out with Mr. Seabury and Eliza," Maria said.

"Ugh, I hate when you're right," Charles muttered.

"I'm right because I'm a woman," Maria said, tilting her head up.

"That's like saying I have eyes because I'm a man, it's possible, but not entirely true," Charles said. Maria stuck her tongue out at him and made him laugh.
