Chapter Thirty-Two - Lose-Lose

"Honest to god, I seriously don't care," that witch said, rubbing her temple, "They could die and I wouldn't do anything about it."

Tatiana Smith, the devil herself, stood before me tapping on her phone, checking into Krystallia's phone.

"Come on, we have to get this plan ready."

She started moving but my feet were planted onto the ground. She stopped before turning around, "Hello? Earth to Joseph."

I didn't say a word. I didn't want to say a word.

She sighed, "Fine, I'll bring you to see them."

I looked up and nodded. She started walking in another direction and I followed. When we reached a door, she opened it with her fingerprint and pushed it wide open.

There, in a glass box, was my wife and daughter. They were cuffed up with tape and cloth on their mouth to cover up their screams. I quickly went to them and placed my hand on the glass.

"Kiara," I softly said, referring to my wife and turned to my daughter, "Joanna."

I saw tears start streaming down their faces and my heart broke into a million pieces. A few tears of my own escaped my eyes as I spoke, "I'll get you out of here, my darlings. Don't worry."

The wretched woman groaned from the door, "Oh, god. Just get over it. They're never leaving until you comply with me. They'll never leave until Krystallia is dead by my hands."

I sniffled, "You're a witch."

"Grass is green, water is wet, and the sky is blue. Tell me something I don't know," she stepped to my side. She leaned down and tapped her nail on the glass, "Hello."

My wife and daughter screamed when they saw her and she frowned, "What a way to greet me."

She stood up straight and dusted her hands, "Anyway, we should go. Time's running out, it's almost Christmas. You want to spend it with your family, right?"

I nodded hastily and she smirked, "Then help me and I'll let them go. It's simple as that."

I looked at my two girls and smiled sadly, "I love you both. I promise I'll come back for you."

They nodded and I got up, fire in my eyes, "Fine, what's the plan?"

As I drank the last of the bottle in my hands, my phone rang. I picked it up and saw an unknown number. I answered the call and pressed the phone to my ear, "Hello?"

"Open the front door," a feminine voice said and I raised an eyebrow, "Okay?"

I got up and went to the front door. I opened it and saw a package on the carpet.

"Pick it up and open it. Don't hang up, okay?"

"Er, why?"

"I'll explain."

I looked at the phone and asked as I picked up the box, "Who are you?"

"Someone you'll know soon."

I placed the box on the dining room table and tore open the tape with my keys. Opening the lids, I squinted at the smaller box inside.

A box within a box. What's next? An engagement ring box inside the smaller one?
