Chapter Forty - Here I Come

Today's New Year's Eve. Yay.

I woke up in Zach's arms, bathed in his body warmth. His bare chest was on show and I moved my arms so that it was around his waist.

I exhaled and closed my eyes again. Leaning my head on his chest, I was about to go back to sleep when I felt a soft kiss being placed on my forehead.

"How long have you been awake?" I asked and he smiled lazily, "Morning to you too."

I rolled my eyes and kissed his chest, "I'm serious."

He rolled onto his back and pulled me flush against his side, "Probably for about an hour."

I raised an eyebrow, "So you've been staring at me for an hour?"

"I mean, you stared at me too."

"No, I didn't. I just gazed at you. I was going back to sleep."

He let out a laugh and kissed my forehead, "Cutie."

We laid there for a bit longer before I sat up, "We should get some breakfast."

He groaned and I smacked his thigh, "Come on now."

He held my waist and pulled me on top of him, "I just want to lay in bed..."

"Zach, there's going to be a party tonight at the base. We'll have to go set it up," I softly said, placing my hands on his abs. He tilted his head, "But babe..."

"Zachary," I warned and he smiled, tracing the new scar on my face, "Have I ever told you how beautiful you look? Even with all of the scars."

"If you're not getting out of bed, then I'll go myself then," I shrugged and got off him, then hopped off the bed. I walked into the bathroom and started my morning routine.

Halfway through brushing my teeth, Zach came and hugged me from behind, "I'm sorry, Diamond..."

I raised an eyebrow, muffling out words, "What're you sorry for?"

"For...just being a whiny boyfriend..."

My lips pursed into a thin line and I rinsed my mouth before wiping them clean. I turned around and hugged him back, "It's alright. I'm not mad, are you mad?"

He hugged me tighter and rested his head in the crook of my neck, "No."

"Then we're okay. I do need to apologize too though."

He looked at me, "Why?"

"You've been so good to me and I've been taking it for granted. So I'm sorry if I ever made you feel sad, or mad, or...something."

He gently smiled and kissed my temple, "It's alright. I'm not mad, are you mad?"

"No."

"Then we're okay."

We walked down to the dining room hand-in-hand and saw Kris and KT actually sitting and eating! They're even reading the news!

They usually leave before eight to get in a full day of work, but they're actually here today. And it's after nine.

"Morning, guys," I greeted and they looked up from their food, "Morning."

Zach and I sat down and the maids placed breakfast in front of us.

"I'm going to have to leave for a few hours for some meetings but I'll be back before the party," KT said and Kris looked at him, "Even on New Year's Eve?"
