Yongjie was overly excited the rest of the day. He had thought Xingsi was going to reject him. He managed to convince Xingsi to visit his home that evening and probably get him to meet his mom since she had been asking after him.
Yongjie paced to and from at the front of his house anticipating the special guest. He was still with his school bag and hadn't even gone into the house to change. He just wanted to see Xingsi.
As soon as Xingsi highlighted from the taxi, Yongjie ran to give him a hug. He held his hand and they both walked inside the house.
They were both halfway down Yongjie's room when he heard his name. Yongjie paused and turned to see Hong sitting at the dining table and scooping noodles into his mouth.
Xingsi quickly bowed and greeted Hong. Hong just made a grunt reply. Yongjie whispered to Xingsi to go to his room and wait. Yongjie pointed at the door before facing his step father with a stern face.
"Fu yongjie, are your results out?" the man spat.
"No."
"Who is the man you bring to my house?"
"My friend."
"What kind of friend do you hold hands like lovers?" Hong pointed his chopstick angrily at Yongjie.
"So what if he's my lover?" Yongjie retorted.
"Don't use disrespectful tone on me. I will not tolerate such act in my house!"
"This is my mother's house, not yours."
"Huh? She allows you carry such act in this house?"
Yongjie breathed and squeezed his fist. He wasn't sure what exactly made him more angry. That fact that Hong was homophobic or that he mentioned his mother so randomly without fear or respect. "I'm not going to argue with you, Mr Hong." he turned and made to move.
"I want that man out of my house immediately!"
"He is going nowhere," Yongjie replied. "He hasn't done anything wrong, you have no right to send my boyfriend away!"
That seemed to shut Hong up. He blinked back shock and looked away. Yongjie walked back to his room, trying to calm himself down. He met Xingsi leaning beside the door.
"Is something wrong?" Xingsi had a worried look on his face. He held Yongjie's arm.
"No Xingsi." Yongjie forced a smile as he stared at the man's beautiful face.
"I can leave if you want, I don't want you getting into trouble because of me,"
"He is just my step father, don't worry about him. And please make yourself comfortable."
"Sure?"
"Yes."
Both men walked to the bed and settled in.
"It's my birthday on Friday. I have already decided where we will be going," Yongjie announced changing the topic immediately."Oh..." Xingsi nodded. He must have forgotten.
"You already promised to spend the day with me. We will be going to a small resort at the beach. I already made the bookings." Yongjie tapped the screen of his phone and showed Xingsi pictures of the beautiful location. "What do you think?"
Xingsi smiled, "I like it."
"Yes!"
Xingsi looked around the room once more. It had an old fashioned design that was still maintained. The air smelled of scenty candles with jasmine flavor.
"I like your room."
"It has been my room since I was a kid." Yongjie stood and walked to his reading table. He pulled open the drawers revealing sets of toy aeroplanes, cars and toy robots. "See I still have my toys."
"What? Yongjie. You're supposed to give these out," Xingsi said trying hard not to laugh at Yongjie's strange obsession with his toys. "What are keeping them for?"
Yongjie closed the drawers and went back to sit beside Xingsi. This time a little closer.
"I'm an only child. I didn't have anyone to play with so I was very selfish with my toys. They were like my friends.""I understand," Xingsi said. "I never knew my mom. I grew up with my father, a single dad. He worked so hard to make sure I had the best education. I didn't have time to play with toys like you, Yongjie."
Yongjie took a moment to admire Xingsi. He leaned closer as his eyes trailed down Xingsi's soft red lips. "I can share with you."
"That's so generous of you."
Xingsi rested his hand on Yongjie's neck. He leaned in directing his lips towards Yongjie's. "I'm falling in love with you Yongjie..."The tension was high in the room both men felt it right to at least savor the moment and absorb each other's feelings.
Just when their faces were inches close to each other, a heavy banging on the room door disconnected them. The two men awkwardly distanced themselves.
"Fu yongjie?" A voice called from the other side of the door.
"Mom!" Yongjie called back. He quickly went to open the door. "Mom... you're back."
Yongjie's mom stepped into the room.
"Fu Yongjie, your father is complaining that you brought a stranger to the house.""Mom it's Xingsi."
"Oh..." Xingsi's mom turned to see Xingsi clearly. "Oh I didn't know you were the one."
"Good evening mom," Xingsi greeted calmly. "I didn't mean to bother you. I was already on my way home."
"No Xingsi stay," Yongjie said holding Xingsi.
"It's getting late. I will call you when I get home okay. It's fine."
Yongjie nodded.
When Xingsi was out of the room, Yongjie's mom stopped faced Yongjie at the door side. "Why did you bring him when your step father is around? Huh?"
"Mom, Xingsi is the man I love. The earlier Mr Hong accept it the better. If he has a problem with me then that's his problem."
"You should apologize quickly to Hong, you disrespected him."
"Mom? Is that what he told you? I was not even rude to him."
"Fu Yongjie...?"
"Mom excuse me please."
Yongjie rushed outside the house, by the time he got there Xingsi had already boarded a taxi and left. Yongjie hoped Xingsi was not too angry with his step father's actions.
