The next day which was Friday, Xingsi managed to get all his work done. Every other incoming customer schedules was moved to the next week. He didn't want to screw up today's dinner night. He needed to get home, freshen up and meet Yongjie at the location.
He was excited. He left the office after announcing to Licheng and Muren about his plans for the night. So they should probably expect him in the morning.
Xingsi left the office at about 5:30pm. He got to the parking lot and unlocked his bike. He was about to wear his helmet when he heard the screeching noise of tyres, followed by a crash.
An accident just happened opposite the road.
Xingsi dropped his helmet and walked to the scene. Few drivers had stopped to take the victims to the hospital. A woman whose car was damaged lost control of the brakes and rammed into the pavement. The car crashed into a couple and an old man.
Xingsi moved to help. He managed to turn the older man, who breathing was getting shallow. He had hit his head on the hard pavement and was bleeding profusely.
An ambulance arrived at the scene. The medics quickly performed first aid treatment for the victims. One nurse wiped the blood off the older man's face and to Xingsi's surprise, he recognized the face.
He was Yongjie's step dad.
"I know him!" Xingsi heard himself talking to the nurse as the medics put the older man on the stretcher.
"How are you related?"
Xingsi thought about the right words to say. "He is my... he is my father in law."
The nurse nodded. "You can join him in the ambulance."
"Thank you." Xingsi took a sweat beside the man. He couldn't believe it. His plans for tonight was at stake. Mr Hong's life was in danger here. He needed to make sure the man was okay first.
Even if he wasn't legally involved with Yongjie he couldn't just turn a blind eye to Hong's situation.
"What is your father in law's name?" the nurse asked as soon they settled in the ambulance.
"Um... Mr Hong," Xingsi replied.
"Mr Hong has lost a lot of blood. He will need emergency blood transfer."
Xingsi swallowed hard. It was going to be a long night.

Yongjie was at cozy restaurant fifteen minutes early. A waitress showed him the table already set aside for his dinner. He hoped Xingsi would keep to time so he didn't bother calling him.
Thirty minutes later, there was no sign of Xingsi. He decided to call his number. After dialing twice, Xingsi was not picking up his phone.
Yongjie became confused. He wondered what could be the problem. He called Licheng to confirm of Xingsi left the office. Licheng said Xingsi already left over an hour ago.
Yongjie stood up. He made to leave the hotel when his phone rang.
"Fu Yongjie. Where are you?" it was his mother's voice and she was in panic mode.
"Mom? You sound worried?"
"It's Hong, he's been in an accident."
"What?"
Yongjie quickly got the details of the hospital from his mother. She had pleaded with him to go check on him, that she would come over later, the traffic was high where she was. Yongjie inhaled deeply.
He hated the idea of going to visit Hong. He tried calling Xingsi again but this time his phone was switched off.
How can two wrong coincidence happen at the same time? Xingsi missing their dinner date and Hong getting in an accident? Yongjie wondered.
With much emotional conflict, Yongjie hailed a taxi.
