When Clementine opened her eyes, she was in what looked to be a cave. It was hard to say though because from what she could tell, she had never been there before.
Climbing to her feet, she began to walk around. She seemed to be the only one there, but she felt her stomach drop when she heard a scream. Part of Clementine wanted to tuck tail and run, but she couldn't. Because when she listened closer, she realised she recognised the scream.
"Jess," she said to herself as she began to move faster.
The tunnels in the cave system were like a maze and Clementine could feel herself getting lost. She followed the screams as best she could, but she was struggling still. What even was this? A dream? A vision?
The girl's screams echoed through the tunnel once again, sending a chill down Clementine's spine. The last time she had seen Jessie she was comatose on the couch, so how was she down in these caves? How was Clementine down in these caves?
"Jess!" she yelled as she ran. She wasn't thinking straight, her concern for her friend clouding her mind. If she had been thinking properly, she would have realised that shouting probably wasn't the best option because whatever was hurting Jessie might have heard her.
"Clementine?" she heard a voice bounce off of the dirt walls. The voice was indistinct like a murmur, but she didn't miss it. "Clementine, can you hear me?"
"Jess?" she called again, thinking it was the girl's voice she had been hearing. "Where are you?"
Clementine moved further, starting to run again. The tunnel finally fed into a larger cavern where the echoes had originated from. Slowing down, Clementine allowed herself to scan the area in search of her friend.
"Clementine, please. Come back to me," the murmured voice from before spoke again. It was less of a murmur this time, however, and Clementine knew it wasn't Jessie. In fact, it sounded like Leo. "Please."
A small part of her wanted to turn back and figure out where his voice was coming from, but there were more important things. She ignored it, walking into the larger cavern and following Jessie's voice.
Peering through the dark, she noticed a group of tall figures standing over a hole. Moving up to the higher ground, she walked until she was able to see above them.
The figures were shovelling dirt into the hole and if Clementine weren't mistaken, she could see hands trying to dig themselves out. A head tried to stay above the dirt, dark brown hair and milky skin showing itself.
"Jessie," she gasped in realisation. She slid down the dirt carefully to the lower level, running to the hole. "Hang on, Jess!"
"Help me, Clem!" Jessie called from under the dirt.
