Chapter 23 - Ichirou

I had a really comfortable nap. I woke up well rested and relaxed. I don't know why, but for some reason I thought I would have been sleeping on the ground. When I woke up I was so confused and it took me a while to remember that I was currently staying at the palace.

Soon after I had woken up, a couple of servants walked into the room. They had robes and accessories. I could very well already guess what they were planning on doing.

"What do you think you're all doing?" I ask as they began to surround me.

"Orders from the Emperor. You are to look your best when you are presented to the royal family. We are only here to help." one of them answers.

I move away from their grasps, "Uh, I don't think so. I can dress my own self."

"I beg your pardon. But we cannot disobey our orders. It is only proper to help an important guest get ready."

I look at the other servant who had not spoken a word. She looked young, and was probably new to this whole being-a-servant thing. The other servant was most likely somewhere around her 40s.

"Really. I am fine. I don't need any help to get dressed. But you are very much welcomed to put on the finishing touches after I am done dressing." I smile.

"We cannot do that." the servant shook her head.

"If you do not let me dress myself then I will not stay at the palace any longer. I want my own privacy, and I do hope you respect that." I say in a firm voice.

They both nod, but leave hesitantly. I sigh when they are finally gone and grab the robes they were going to dress me in.

I almost regretted sending them out when I took a look at the garments. They were a little more complicated than the kimonos I had been wearing. Oh, where are my little friends when I need them. I thought

I was somehow able to figure out how to put it on. It may not have been put on perfectly but at least it was on. I guess the servants can fasten it a bit when they come back in.

I open the door to tell them that it was fine to come back in. As soon as I opened it, my face met with a broad chest. I look up and met with Shirokane-san's eyes. He had an emotion I couldn't really recognize.

"Your servants said they will be back in 10 minutes." He informs me.

I nod, "Okay, I see. So what brings you here?" I ask, hope rising without me realizing it.

"I just came to check up on you. Make sure you are alright. I see that you are more than alright though, so I will be taking my leave." he nods and begins to walk away.

Is that really all he's gonna say? What was I getting all worked up for anyway. Oh god, how embarrassing. I really need to stop having these kinds of misunderstandings. It won't be good for my health if my heart keeps on throbbing whenever he's close.

"Yes, only think about going home. Nothing can happen anyway. It would just be something that is bound to never work out." I try to cheer myself up.

I think it only made it worst. That self-realization hadn't even crossed my mind before. But it's so true. He is someone from the past and I am someone from the future. I just had to go and like a boy who is many centuries old. Nice.

"Miss, we are back. Please allow us to finish dressing you up." I get cut off from my thoughts by the servants walking back in.

"Oh, sure. Yes, you can go on ahead and do what you need to do." I smile.
