Chapter 10 - The Search

Natsume's POV

It has been a few days since I had that dream about having to find the foreign girl and protect her. That same morning I left the village and went to the nearest village, just in case I had any luck of finding her there. If she was able to make it to any villages, then the one I went to had to be the one she would have reached first.

In the end I had no such luck; I searched everywhere, but to no avail

After searching the village, I decided to go back to where I had met her and start my search from there instead. The lake I had seen her in when she was standing on it, made her shine so brilliantly. She looked so ethereal, with her beautiful honey-like golden, brown hair that cascaded down her figure, and her eyes that were like something out of this world -- a color with both a hint of blue and a hint of green.

I do not know why, and I really do not understand, but she made me feel something...something I had not felt before. She also gave me a feeling of familiarness, even though I had not seen her in my past encounters. But before I could have had the chance to lose myself right then and there, I had to first make sure if she was a threat or not.

And once I held her in my arms.... It just felt so right. Like she belonged there, as if she was a piece of me I had been missing my entire life. But I pushed the thought away, I was most likely going mad. Who knew if she could have possibly been a kunoichi and sent here with the intention to kill? I wasn't going to take my chances.

In the end, when I found out that she was just a poor soul who had gotten kidnapped, and not a wretched kunoichi, I felt relief. I was glad that such an innocent looking being was indeed just that and not some kind of threat.

I should not have let her go that easily. Even if she had refused my help, I should have just helped her anyway-- no. I should have brought her back with me to the shinobi village. Now I have no way of knowing if she is safe or not.

Though something in me says that I should worry not. That she is alright.

But, that still does not set my mind at peace. I need to physically make sure that she is safe.

When I made it to the lake, I scanned the surroundings until my eyes landed on those familiar trees in which I saw her form disappear into. I instantly headed in that direction, wanting to waste no time. The sooner I find her the better.

I wonder if any of these feelings are due to that dream. Was it even real? Do I really need to protect her? And will she really help me bring out my own powers, or was all that something made from my imagination because that is what I want?

I need to clear my mind. I cannot be thinking all this when my first priority is to find her as soon as I can, and make sure she is safe -- even if I have no clue as to what I have to protect her from. For some reason my instincts tell me that I should trust what I was told in that dream, and that, I shall.

When I got to a clearing from the trees, I looked around for any clues as to where she could have gone after she got out. In the distance I noticed some crops, so I sprinted that way.

The crops turned out to be part of a farm. I noticed that there a man outside, picking out some vegetables. I then went up to him to ask him if he knew anything about that woman-- well, girl.

Once I got up close to him, he turned his head and looked at me, "Oh, hello there young man." He then got up and dusted himself off, "Is there something I can do for you?"

I am glad I decided to wear normal apparel, I would usually get a very different reaction otherwise.

"I am sorry for my intrusion, sir." I said before asking my question, "I was actually wondering if a girl with foreign features had passed through here?"

"Now that you mention it, there was a girl with very beautiful, but strange, hair -- and eyes." he said.

"Really? Do you know where she went? And how long ago was this?" I asked.

He thought about it before answering, "I believe it was about a few days ago. And I gave her directions to a village that she could go to, which is that way." He pointed straight, to which there was a path.

"Okay, thank you." I smiled at him.

"No problem. She is a very lovely girl, such a nice soul she has." he said.

Before I could hear anything else, I took off to the direction of the village he had said the girl had gone to. When I got there, I realized it was the exact same village I was in when I had first started searching for her.

Sadly, I could not stay to search any longer. The time that was given to me to be able to search for her was coming to an end, and I had to return to the shinobi village.

I ran all the way back, jumping here and there to get there even faster. In the end I made it to the shinobi village by the end of the day. All in all, I spent five days away from the village.

Once I made it back, I decided to go see the hokage. I greeted everyone that I met on my way to see the leader. They all welcomed me back or just nodded and kept on walking. But a couple of them caught my attention.

"That woman sure was strange." I heard one say to the other after I had greeted them.

"Who would have thought that we would come across a foreign woman?"

At that, I perked up. But they did not say anything else that would be of any interest to me, so I just continued on my way.

As I made to the door of the hokage, I heard some laughter. There was a deep one -- which I could tell was the hokage -- and a sweet sounding one that sounded just like a lullaby.

I knocked on the door and waited until I was called in. The laughter slowly died down and there was a clearing of a throat.

"Come in." hokage spoke.

I walked in, "I have returned sir." And bowed down in respect.

"Ah, Shirokane-kun."

"Shirokane-kun?" the sweet voice spoke. I instantly recognized that voice and looked up.
