Chapter 9 - Toshii's New Home

Phew! Finally, after three days, we made it to the village. Though the way here wasn't all bad. I was able to save Toshii from being killed by that Yaban Oni, and having Toshii made the way here a lot more livelier. He is so unpredictable; he can be goofy one second and the next completely serious. No joke.

Like last night, before going to sleep, he was showing me one of his 'special' dances. He got some grass and put it on top of his head. Next, he took two branches from a nearby tree and held them out. After that he said that the dance he was about to show me was major top secret that no one knows, but the people who are close to him.

When I agreed that I wasn't going to tell any other living soul for the rest of my life unless I get the okay from him, he began to show me his dance. He slowly shook the branches, going up and down and then in circular motions. Then, he began to slowly jump up and down trying not to drop all of the grass that was on top of his head. He soon started turning around, moving his hips. That made me smile a bit, the way he was doing it was just too cute.

But what happened next took me completely by surprise. He shook the branches all of a sudden brutally. He also spread his legs a bit, then he jumped, turning from side to side while screaming 'HA' each time he turned. I began laughing once he did that. But that wasn't it. No. To complete the dance he had to do one more thing.

He started shaking his hips, and not just any shake. He full out shook them like there was no tomorrow. I busted out laughing, and I felt my eyes water from the force. He giggled as he shook them. When he stopped he had a huge smile on his face, I on the other hand, had not stopped laughing. He stopped smiling and crossed his arms. He asked me what was so funny. I just giggled. "It is not funny! That was my special dance!" he said, as I wouldn't stop laughing.

Ahh Toshii... Why are you so amusing? I am really going to miss him once I find a nice family that is willing to take him in.

The village looked really nice. And like at the last one, all of the villagers wouldn't stop looking at me. Toshii noticed and he looked over to me with a curious face.

"Why do they look at you so much? It is not like you are beautiful." he shrugged.

My mouth fell when he said that. Could he have been even more ruder! "Hey, have you ever heard of manners?"

"Manners? Sure, I have. My mother said it is of mannerism to be polite to others. If you are nice to them, they will be nice to you. But, with you, you are nice to me even when I say mean things."

"Oh really? Then maybe I should reconsider."

"Ah, but you are not the kind of person to be mean, am I right?"

"Sheesh kid, how old are you? One minute you act your age and the next you are outsmarting me."

As I looked to my side, I noticed that Tsubasa was laughing. He is always laughing when Toshii and I get into an argument. Somehow, Toshii always wins and that makes Tsubasa laugh. I bet he's thinking 'how can a kid outsmart someone older than him?'.

"So do you know why they are staring at you?" Toshii asked.

"Oh. Umm, probably... From my last experience I found out that they were staring at me because of my foreign features. I don't look like anybody else, right?"

"Ohh! That makes sense! Phew. For a second there, I thought that they had falling for you."

"Really. Are you that worried about me?"

"Huh? No. I am worried about them. Who would want to be with you? You are not beautiful nor are you great at anything. You would end up making them miserable."
