Chapter 15 - Sweet Dreams

"Hey, are you awake?" Shirokane-san whispers.

I moved to a sitting up position, "Considering I haven't been able to sleep." I mumble.

"Good. Get up, we need to go." he says, then  I hear him move away.

"Right now? It's really late--or early? Whatever. The sun still isn't even close to showing yet, and you want to leave?"

"Yes, now get up. We don't have much time. Something tells me that if we stay here, we won't be able to leave."

Well, at least I know I'm not the only one uncomfortable in this place. I have to agree with him though, I have kind of been having the same feeling.

"Okay. I'm up," I stood up and faced Shirokane-san. "Now let's go."

It was really dark outside. I could hardly make out what anything was. The only thing I was able to see at all, was the outline of Shirokane-san as he led the way.

"Be quiet. We do not want to be caught." he warned.

"Yeah, yeah. I know. If we get caught, bad things will happen. Dude, I've seen enough movies to know that if one of us makes noise--which would probably be me, but I don't want to jinx myself so forget I just said that--they will get us, and who knows what the heck they would do. Either we die, get sold, tortured, or used as some kind of pawn." I blabbered.

"Just be quiet. Your loud mouth will get us caught." He growled out.

"Well sorry." I replied sarcastically.

In the end we continued in silence. He didn't make a sound at all. And me, well, I was breathing hard after a while. Damn, since when was I so out of shape? I guess kendo didn't help much.

When we were finally a safe distance away, Shirokane-san began to slow down. It was then that I was able to at last catch my breath.

"So... Is it safe now?" I ask.

Shirokane-san gives me an incredulous look.

"What?"

He shakes his head, "A princess should just be quiet and let herself be protected. Instead, you are just bothersome."

"Yeah, you're welcome." I smile. He was making me lose interest in this whole princess thing.

"T'was not a compliment."

If I was drinking something I would have already choked on it. That sentence had me laughing so hard. Who uses t'was? Well, I guess it makes sense, being in this time period and all. But still, that sounded so...weird. I can't even describe it.

"What is so funny?" He gave me a look as if I was crazy.

"You." I managed to say between my fit of laughter.

"Me?"

"Yes," I tried to breath so I would stop laughing. "You said something that I had never heard anyone else say--of course, except for Shakespeare. But those were plays, so they don't count."

"Shakespeare? Who is that? And what was it that I said?"

"Oh, don't worry about that." I waved him off. "It wasn't anything you have to worry about."

"That only makes me wonder all the more." he shook his head. "Let us just keep going. We need to find a place where you can rest without having to worry about them finding us."

"Where I can rest? Don't you mean we?" I question.

"No. I will stay up and guard the area." he explains.
