Chapter 29 - Beautiful Waterfall

I had no idea where the most populated place on mainland was. So when I told Tsubasa that we had to go there, he told me that it would take somewhere along the span of nearing a month. I wanted to groan. Why did it have to take so long?

Can't we just ride a horse carriage or something?

How stupid could I have been?! I should have asked Ichirou-san if he would have let us borrow one. I can't believe I let that golden opportunity pass me by. I let so many opportunities pass me by now that I think about it...

Whatever. The past is the past. There's no sense dreading on it now. Instead, I'll look forward and continue going.

It has already been more than a week since we began walking. More than a week since I was told this was the last thing I needed to do to finally be able to go home. More than a week, and the anxiousness has been killing me. I can already see myself at home, talking with my parents, playing with my siblings, contuing my studies and furthering my intellect. I miss everyone so much, words can't even express the feeling.

I guess all this has been fun. In its own way. I've enjoyed a few things. I really like experiencing such a life in this era. Although it may not be what I am used to, it definitely has its pros. But would I ever think about settling here? Honestly, I don't see myself doing that at all.

As much as it would seem like a dream come true. I'd more prefer the modern life. Women in this lifetime don't have the liberty as women in my time, and I very much like my liberty.

Why am I even thinking so much about this? The only thing I'll accomplish is making my brain over-think this topic. And most likely blow it out of proportions. I tend to do that a lot.

"Gabriella, what do you think of this matter?" Rin popped in front of my face.

I slightly jumped back at the suddeness, "What?" was all that managed to come out. That just goes to show how much attention I have been paying.

"You know, the matter on whether it would be best if we stick or go our own way?"

I straightened up, "Uh...wait--what--why?" I really should have been paying attention.

"You were not listening were you? Fine," she sighed, "I'll explain again. There is one thing we need to be able to channel our strength, which we don't have right now. We believe it would be faster if we take each in a different direction, ah, but you can keep going how your were. This only applies to us, but your opinion also matters for not all of us will be together."

I nod as I understand. If that's what they say, then maybe it would be for the best. It's not like it's crucial for them to be by my side, right? We'll end up separating sooner or later anyways. "I think that's fine. If you think that's faster, then go for it."

"Okay. That means that Sumire will stay with you. Umi and I will both go different ways. We will meet up once you have reached your destination."

Sumire then showed up, "You agreed?! Yay, I get to have you all to myself!" she glowed brightly.

"We shall take our leave now. In the case of there being any peril, Sumire can always contact us."

"Good luck on your search." I called out.

"So what should we do now, Gabriella? I can always fix you up, change your attire, brighten your face..." Sumire continued, but her voice was drowned out as I noticed Shirokane-san coming closer.

"Are you all set to go? We should be leaving this area soon, but there's still something I would like to show you before we go."

"...Or you can go with him." Sumire whispered in my ear.

I blushed and looked down. The way that she made it sound was very misleading, "Uh, sure. What is it?" I asked him.

He showed me that special smile of his which I have only seen a few times. Smirks obviously don't count.

"Ah, just follow me." he grabbed me by the wrist and began to tug me in the direction.

I wondered where it could be? The only things I can see are trees, some rocks, and more trees. Is there something beyond all that? Well, you never know when nothing has been touched by modern life.

After a while of him pulling me along, we finally reached a clearing. I gasped as I took in the beautiful sight. We were on a cliff, but what was in front of us looked simply magical. It was bright and clean, and the sound it was making was very soothing and relaxing.

"What do you think? I was watching the area and came across this place. I thought you would have liked to see it."

I looked at him with my eyes wide, "It's amazing, Shirokane-san! I can't believe you actually came across a such a majestic waterfall. This is my first time ever seeing one." I informed him. This is probably the first time I have ever smiled so much.

"Here, sit down and let you feet hang off." he sat at the edge of the cliff and brought his feet over the edge.

"Yeah...don't think so." I looked over to see how high above it was and instantly backed up far enough to still be able to see the waterfall. "I'm good here." I held my ground.

Shirokane-san laughed, then stood up and came next to me, "Come, I will hold onto you. You have nothing to worry about."

"I...can't. I'm really terrified of heights."

"Here, I got you. I promise I will not let anything happen to you." he held onto me by the shoulders, his eyes showing me how much he really means it.

I breathe in and walk forward. I really do believe in him. And if he says that he won't let anything happen to me, then nothing will happen to me. He didn't have to say anything for me to feel assured, I could see it all in the unspoken words deep in his eyes. You could say he has long ago earned something meaningful from me, my trust.

"See, not too hard." he began to help me sit down. "I thought this place would also help you relax. I know not of the things that trouble you, but I sure do hope you are able to find some peace of mind here."

"It really is such a nice place, Shirokane-san. I--"

"Natsume."

"Eh?"

"You always call me Shirokane-san. That sounds too distant." he scrunched up his nose. "Please call me Natsume."

I was caught off-guard. I have been so used to calling him that that I have forgotten it is only his last name. Now I can't help but think that if I call him otherwise it would be a bit weird.

"Try it."

"A--alright." I mumble. "Na...tsume."

He smiles another rare smile, full of satisfaction. "You have no idea how I longed to hear that," he whispers almost inaudibly.

"What?" I squeak, suddenly feeling very shy.

"Shall we go now? We still have quite a ways to go, and staying here will not make it go any faster." he slowly stood up, helping me along the way.

I blushed and walked in front of him, "Let's not waste time then."
