Chapter 31 - Killing Intent
Rush. The chilly night air was hitting my back. Everything seemed to be going in slow-motion. My lungs were soon empty as I continued to scream going down. I could already imagine the impact of the water once I hit. Funny thing is, I could no longer feel.
Save for the not being able to feel part, I knew I had to do something. And I knew exactly what I had to do to save myself.
Who cares if I answered what he had asked. If I gave him a reason to not let go. If I became some kind of pawn.
I was going to do it.
And there was no way in hell I was going to let him capture me so easily.
With a small flick in my mind, I completely incinerated the rope off me. The rock no longer being extra weight pulling me down. I hadn't been able to better my other gifts, but I turned my body best I could and stared at the fast-approaching water. I only had one chance, and without thinking, I took control of the wind's speed. I worked with it, shaped it, guided it, and was able to conjure a make-shift mini tornado possible of carrying me.
It worked perfectly and I was stopped centimeters before splashing--and most likely dying--into the dark, endless pit of unknown, once beautiful, clear, water.
I breathed a sigh of relief. I was able to make it in time, and it turned out pretty damn nice. My smile was big and full of confidence.
I glared back up at the cliff where Akurosuke stood. He had a smile that curled at the ends, making me remember the Grinch for some reason. Only that his smile was much more frightening and dark.
"Perfect, my gem." he spoke. I was surprised to have heard him, considering I was all the way down here and he was up there. He hadn't even spoken loud enough for me to hear this far.
My eyes never left his, "I may be 'perfect' as you say, but I am no gem of yours!" As soon as I saw him make a move, I sped the movement of the wind and pushed him away.
I heard him land and he yelled, "You will not get away from me! I will not let you go so easily!"
I lifted myself back up slowly, keeping an eye out for him. "I just did." I let him know in a soft, slow voice. He tried to grab me, but I pushed him again.
"Just watch!" I heard a high pitched whistle maneuvering through the trees. Rustling overtook the sound and out came the same bandits who had appeared before, only this time they were more.
"Try and get away now."
I bit the nail of my thumb thinking about what to do now. This was not going to be an easy feat. And if I did not think it out carefully, I was going to be brought down. I didn't know what to do. I was at a loss.
Again, just like I did before, I didn't think and just let it all happen. Everything spun around me so fast. The wind and fire was a mixture able to overpower them. I wasn't sure how I did it, but all I knew is that I didn't have to try hard at all in order to be able to do it. It came to me as normal as any other muscle movement does. Or any kind of reflex.
It was simple.
"Come off your high, girly. We will make sure to make it fast and painless if you cooperate." one of them called out against the rushing wind.
"Listen to them, my gem. You would not want them to resort to other ways. Just as they said, cooperate and it will be fast and painless." Akurosuke spoke with a strain in his voice.
I gave him a side smirk, "Do not think I will let myself act like a weak woman. I'm not, nor have I ever been, a weak woman." I bit out.
"Women are all weak."
