Chapter 3 - Find her and Protect her

Natsume's POV

I saw her go into the trees and disappear from my sight. I was willing to help her if she needed it, but she said she was fine; I just let her be then. She looked really suspicious when I saw her go in to the lake, her clothing was really strange, something I had never seen before. She was really attractive, which led me to believe she could have been a kunoichi spy from an enemy clan. But the look in her eyes proved otherwise, she truly felt frightened—to the point she began to cry.

She said she was kidnapped, and left here. At least the kidnappers were nice enough to leave her with supplies. I wonder what she had in the bag. Maybe food and clothing. Could they have possibly been that nice? She also said she came from somewhere far away, no where near Japan. How far away could that be? Her features where indeed foreign, but she spoke quite fluently, I couldn't detect any hint of an accent. Could she have studied the language from a young age? Her name was also strange, but in a good way, it fit her really well.

Even though she was long gone, I could not stop thinking about her. Her features were stuck in my mind. I loved the color of her hair; it was a such a light beautiful color. And her eyes were so dazzling, some kind of bright blue that could make you stop right in your tracks. She was short compared to me, I was a little more than a head taller than her. I also liked the way she was so independent, she did not want my help. And after talking about her troubles she did not look that weak, she looked headstrong and capable. She was an admirable person.

I just hope she does not encounter trouble, she did look younger than me. She was probably a few years younger than I, which I am nineteen. With her age and looks, she was easy prey. But she did not hit me as a gullible person. As long as no weapons are involved, she should be fine.

My body moved reflexively in a cautious manner when I heard light steps from behind me. I stayed that way until I heard who it was.

“Hey, Shirokane-san. What have you been doing all this time? You were taking long to get back to the village. Did something interesting happen?” Haru-kun asked.

Tamaki Haru is a shinobi younger than I. He is fourteen, and began training when he was eight. He was welcomed into the clan after a fire in his village from enemies left him an orphan.

“I guess something interesting happened,” I took off my mask. “Too bad for you though.” I gave him a smirk.

“Why do all the interesting things happen to you?” he mumbled. “We need to go back to the ninja village, it is already getting pretty dark.” he said.

I hope that girl found a place she could stay. “Yeah let's go back.” I respond, pushing any more thoughts of her away. The chances of meeting her again are rare to none.

The ninja village isn't completely for ninjas. It is just a normal village, but there is a section of it that is only for ninjas. The 'ninja' part of the village is a little further away from the rest of the 'normal' village. It is more like a training site that we go to, at least for those that have a home. Many children that end up orphans go there, and train to be a ninja. They aren't always orphan though, sometimes they are children that ran away from home or just want to become stronger.

If they can prove themselves, we accept them. Many ninjas live there, shinobi and kunoichi both. We don't have that many kunoichi though. We treasure our kunoichi because they can be really useful, especially when it comes to seducing men. Kunoichi are mainly trained for that—the art of seduction is their strongest point.

We have all types of ninjas that dedicate themselves to one thing. We all have to learn everything, but in the end we only stick to the one thing that we are best at. There are ninjas that are poisoners; most of them dress as flute playing mystics. We also have spies which are referred to as kanchou, scouts as teisatsu, surprise attackers as kishu, and agitators as konran.
