Dad and Tara got back an hour ago and Tara was in full planning mode. She was running around the house shouting at her phone every time it rang.
“Why didn’t I just hire a party planner?!” She curses herself.
Her phone starts to ring again for the millionth time I see Milos eyes roll as he takes a bite out of his sandwich.
“It was like this all the way back.” He muses through a mouthful of peanut butter and jelly.
“She just wants everything to be perfect. How was everything at the hospital?” He isn’t listening anymore, he was crushing a new level of Mario and I realised I was just a talking blob to him now.
Brie grabbed a water from the fridge and almost crashed into Tara who was pacing around the kitchen endlessly.
She finally sat down in the chair and slammed her planning book on the table before burying her head in her hands.
“Everything okay?” I question, knowing the answer but needing to ask anyway.
“No. The drinks aren’t at the venue, the flowers are wrong, my best friend from high school missed her flight and the dry cleaners lost my dress!” I could see she was trying to hold it together but failing miserably.
Brie slid the book from under Tara’s arm. “Can I borrow your phone?” Tara didn’t even look up as she handed the phone to Brie.
Brie grabs my laptop from the counter and settles herself into the living room out of sight.
“Can I make you some tea or something?” I gently rub my hand on Tara’s back. She looks so stressed, this isn’t how today was supposed to be for her.
She finally lifted her head from the table and looked at me with her tear soaked face.
“Thank you dear but in all honesty, I’d rather gin.” My stomach made a flip at the thought off drinking more gin but I chuckled at Tara.
I went into the wine fridge and grabbed one of the fancier looking bottles and a glass. “Will this do?”
She smiled at me. “I knew there was a reason I always wanted a daughter.” Milo coughed behind her and she turned to him. “But I wouldn’t swap you for the world little man!” He glows, seeming satisfied with her response and returns to his game.
I poured Tara a glass of wine and convinced her she had to eat something. She was half way through the cheese and crackers when Brie walked back in.
“The drinks will be at the venue by three and there will be a case of very expensive champagne added for the inconvenience, Mrs Blooms from Preston market will be meeting the guys from Florence’s there too with her van full of roses, Stephanie is getting on a last minute flight right now, I like her – she can flirt like nobody’s business - and your dress wasn’t lost, they ripped it but they sent me a picture and I can fix it so Cole is on his way to pick it up now.”
We all stared at her in disbelief, Tara most of all who couldn’t pick her jaw up from the floor.
“How did you do that?” She asked in awe.
Brie shrugged. “Getting people to do exactly what I want is kind of my superpower.” She proclaimed.
I marvelled at my amazing best friend. Tara almost knocked her over with the hug she threw at her.
“Now, soon to be former Ms Thompson, you need to go start getting ready.” Tara nodded and squealed like a little school girl before going upstairs.
*****************
I heard the doorbell just as Brie was finishing fixing Tara’s dress.
“I’ve got it!” I shout. I hadn’t seen Jayce since mine and Bries little show this morning and assumed he was busy with prep for the party, people had been ringing the door bell all damn day dropping things off or picking things up.
I opened the door and a small plump lady greeted me. She had kind eyes and short brunette curls. She smiled at me, she looked oddly familiar but I just couldn’t place her.
“Oh you must be Aleah! Well I’d say you’re beautiful darling but it’s a bit hard to see!” I feel confused until I remember the mud mask dried to my face hasn’t been washed off yet.
“I’m sorry, who are you?” The lady laughs so hard her belly wobbles with it.
“Oh no! I’m sorry dear, I’m Elizabeth, I’m Tara’s best friend and I believe you’re friends with my son, Chad.”
That’s how I recognised her, I hadn’t actually met her before but looking at her now it’s clear how much of her is represented in Chad. He has her colouring, her plump lips and chocolate eyes. I could hear Brie sniggering from the living room at the idea of Chad being referred to as my friend.
“Elizabeth!” Tara shrieked from the staircase and Elizabeth barged past me to her friend.
They laughed and joked on the bottom step. It was nice to see that no matter how mature women got we all still needed our girls around us. I couldn’t wait for me and Brie to get to a point where we could be bitchy old grandmother’s drinking lemonade on the porch, still happy in each others company and gossiping about the neighbours new ugly grandkid.
“Beth, have you met Aleah? And the little lifesaver on the couch is Brianna.” Tara motioned to Brie who was admiring her handy work.
Elizabeth and Tara were at the top of the stairs when the doorbell rang again.
“Oh Aleah dear, could you get that please? It’ll be my bags.” Elizabeth blabbered whilst still following Tara.
I opened the door expecting to see a poor overworked driver carrying a few shopping bags but instead I was greeted by a 6’4 brunette basketball player dragging a suitcase and carrying a dry cleaning bag.
Chad looked at my mud covered face. “Well I expected you to look a bit rough after last night but this is worse than even I could have imagined.”
I glared at Chads stupid smouldering eyes as they trailed over my body. I had thrown on a tiny tank top and little shorts when I got out of the bath so most of my skin was on display for Bries moisturising treatment. He seemed to be drinking me in like I was ice water on a hot day.
“Can I help you?” I snapped. He really needed to stop looking at me like that.
“There’s no need for that senorita, I’m just the delivery boy.” He winked.
He walked over to where Brie was sitting and put his bag down.
“Brianna, looking as beautiful as ever.”
“Bite me Wilson.” She replied without even looking up.
“Do they put something in the water here that makes you girls all equal parts fit and feisty or something?” He chuckled.
“That’s enough Chad! Leave the poor girls alone. I only let you come because you basically begged and now you’re just torturing two innocent women - both of whom are too smart to fall for your crap anyway. Now either get home and find yourself a nice dumb cheerleader or go find Jayce, it’s your choice.” I couldn’t help the laugh that erupted from my chest at Elizabeth’s outburst, made better by the crimson glow that now radiated from her sons face.
“Thanks for that mum..” Chad rolled his eyes and headed for Jayce’s room.
Elizabeth placed a sloppy lipstick kiss on Chad’s cheek as he passed. “You’re welcome dear.” She laughed as she pinched his cheeks.
“Is the dress ready?” She asked Brie excitedly clapping her hands.
**********
Brie still hadn’t let me see my dress and I still hadn’t seen Jayce. I was starting to feel a bit uneasy about this whole situation. I just wanted him to do that thing he does so well and calm all my nerves with his husky voice and all encompassing aura.
“I’m nearly done here so get ready because you’re next.” Brie had really outdone herself with her make up. She had perfectly mastered a dark smoky eye but with a striking gold eyeliner twist. Her ebony skin glowed under perfectly placed highlighter and her lips were coated in a dark plum coloured lipstick.
I was glad Brie had embraced her natural locks. It’s not like the world has always made little black girls with their natural hair feel at the forefront of beauty. I had seen Brie spend a lot of our youth trying to cover it up or change it but now she twisted and primped through those perfect spirals and looked every bit the African Queen she was born to be.
“Okay, just let me wee first, last time you made me hold it for two hours until my hair was set!”
She gave me her evil side eye. “Yes and then you pulled a damn hoodie over your head and covered the whole thing up! You should be grateful I’m trying again!”
I poked my tongue out at her knowing she lived for a chance to do stuff like this.
As I was washing my hands I could hear Jayce and Chad come into Jayce’s room. My heartbeat elevated just a the sound of his voice and I couldn’t stop myself as I lent my head against the closed door to listen.
“So you actually told this chick you love her?! Are you sick or something? Or were you trying to get her to do something really dirty?” Chad laughed with a hint of disbelief.
“Neither, I just know I love her. I honestly can’t explain it. She’s just really special.” My hand gripped at my chest. He spoke with nothing but sincerity when he described me. I couldn’t believe he was actually telling people how he felt about me.
“So when do I get to meet the babe hot enough to tie you down? I mean, I never thought I’d actually see the day Jayce Thompson got a girlfriend. She must be a hell of a girl.”
“She is.” He avoided the question and I was grateful.
“So how’s she in bed?”
I froze, I mean I expected guys to talk about this stuff but me and Jayce hadn’t even had sex. I couldn’t be mad at him talking about what we had and hadn’t done, earlier I’d told Brie everything down to the direction his tongue rotated against me so I really wasn’t in a position to tell him not to talk to Chad. Please say something nice...
“She’s incredible.” Thank god.
“I mean I haven’t even slept with her yet and it’s still the best time I’ve spent in bed with a girl. She can literally turn me on by looking at me and as for... let’s just say she has no gag reflex and I was milked better than a fucking dairy cow. It took everything in me not to fuck her every way I could think of last night. She is without a doubt the sexiest, most beautiful woman alive. I’ve literally never wanted any girl as much as I want her.”
The heat rose rapidly throughout my body, my neck and face must have been beetroot red but it was amazing to hear him talk that way about me. I really was making him as happy as he made me. Fuck I fancied that boy right now.
Brie opened the door and I jumped out of my skin.
“Jesus, I thought you’d slipped and died or something, what are you doing?” I stepped forward and the door from Jayce’s room opened.
I looked back at Jayce knowing my face would give away exactly what I was doing. He smirked at me then made knowing eyes at Brie.
“I need that thing you kept for me in your closet, you know, the one for tonight.”
I looked at Jayce puzzled but Brie clearly understood.
“Okay, well you two go get that but give me a minute before you come back through, I need to ummm... shave my pits!” She grabbed a razor from the side waving it around dramatically.
I could see Jayce desperately trying to stifle a laugh as he walked with me back to my room, leaving a confused Chad behind him.
As soon as Brie closed the door Jayce had me in his arms. It felt like my jigsaw puzzle was complete with its final piece as soon as he touched me. He pulled me from the floor and threw me onto the bed, landing on top and staring down into my eyes.
“Hi" He smiled.
“Hi" I whispered back.
His lips came down on mine and I immediately relaxed into him. His lips were all I needed to remove any doubts I had.
“Sorry, Mums had me doing stuff non-stop.” He spoke between the kisses he had started to trail down my neck.
“It’s okay but you need to go back to your room or Chad is going to get suspicious. I missed you though.” I rush my words out before his kisses steal my breath again.
He sits straddling my waist.
“Did Chad see you in this?” He asks looking down at my little outfit.
“Only when I answered the door, why?” I question.
“No reason. I can’t believe you and Brie did that earlier, you know I’m going to get payback right? I was hard for ages because of you!”
I grin at him and bite my lip like before. “Did you like it?” I ask with fake innocence. “Seeing me with another girl?”
He drags his hands down his face, the sexual frustration evident. “I mean if the other girl could have been like your clone or something it would have been better but I’m not going to lie, anytime you know you’re doing something that makes you completely fuckable you get this look in your eye that drives me wild. The fact you were naked in the bath with another naked girl was definitely something I’ll keep in my bank but honestly I would have preferred my hands on you.. I still want them on you now.”
He lets his hand slide down my body and dip only slightly into my shorts. Just touching the skin below my waistband delicately enough to cause a tingle to run from that spot to my core.
He leans down to my ear to whisper.
“If I could, I would rip these from you right now, get on my knees and lick your pussy until you can’t stop screaming my name.”
Fuck.
What the fuck am I supposed to say to that? Yes please?
The bathroom door swings open and I am saved by Brie walking in using her hand as a blindfold. “Is it safe? Or do you need me to pretend I’m shaving my minge as well?”
Okay the moments over.
Jayce laughs and gets up pulling me with him.
“You’re safe Brie.” He pulls me to him and kisses me like he doesn’t know when he’ll ever be able to kiss me again. It’s so hot and I know I should stop before I set his sexual frustration to boiling point.
“Aww I’m jealous!” Brie pouts. Jayce places a comforting kiss on my forehead before he leaves.
He walks up to Brie, places his hands on her cheeks and kisses her gently on the head too. “Thank you.”
“Any time Romeo.” She smiles. My chest feels slightly heavier as I see him walk out of the room.
“Hey Al, I need that. Does your dad have any hot friends coming tonight?”
This girl will be the death of me.
