𝕾tasiaj Yahontov had many titles in her life. Snake, the Informant of Ketterdam, Anastasiaj Lantsov, the lost heir to the Ravkan throne, Stasiaj Yahontov, honorary Crow, and Stasiaj Brekker, mother and wife. Each name held a part of her life in their hands, having once ruled over it. But, despite the importance of each, the last was her favourite name that she had ever had.

For, as a child on the streets, she had never thought she would reach eighteen, let alone into her adult years, nor had she dreamed that life would progress so far to allow her to have such joys as marriage and children, which she had believed were only granted to the rich. The ending she had pictured for herself had been a far cry from the ending she received.

"You're thinking," Stasiaj opened one eye, glaring over her shoulder at Kaz Brekker, who had his eyes closed. How he had known that was beyond her. "If you're plotting to kill me, it won't work."

"It's me. It'll definitely work," Stasiaj replied, stretching her limbs like a cat after an afternoon nap, as she turned to face the man next to her. Despite being in his early forties, Kaz had not lost the sharpness of his cheekbones, or the thick black hair that Stasiaj remembered so vividly from when they met all those years earlier, at age fifteen. "I'm always plotting to kill you, Crow Man, you should know this."

A grin formed on his face as he cocked an eyebrow and turned to look at her.

"That, I don't doubt," Kaz's voice was deeper in the mornings, tainted with an accent from long ago. During the day, Stasiaj rarely heard it, but early mornings, when it was just the two of them, Kaz's accent from his years growing up on the farm, made a reappearance and she adored it.
