On the way back to Chris' house you stared blankly out of the window. Thinking over what had happened in the last few weeks. Brad had put it so bluntly. You knew that he wasn't trying to hurt or upset you he was genuinely looking out for you. Perhaps you should take a little step back. See how things go if you didn't go in all guns blazing.
But now you had to take him to family dinner. How was that going to go? You couldn't exactly uninvite him now. You were heading back to his place to get ready.
The tension in the car as you pulled into the drive was palpable. Chris kept glancing over at you opening his mouth to say something then looking back to the road.
As you walk into Chris' house with the few bags in hand ready to pick your outfit he grabs you by the arm. Turning to look at him with a little sorrow in your eyes, you blink to hold back the tears threatening to fall.
"Is everything okay? You were quiet all the way here." He has concern in his eyes.
"Of course. I am quite tired to be honest. Could've done with a nap before dinner but I will be fine. Let's get ready we don't have long before we have to head out again." You reply smiling, shrugging off the sinking feeling in your stomach.
Oh god he knew something was wrong. God damn it why had you let Brad get in your head. You wanted to text him and rip him a new asshole but it wasn't worth it. Everything he said was right.
Sitting in the bathroom you looked into the mirror doing your make up when you started to feel the tears prickle.
'No pull yourself together! Now is not the time for this. You can freak out later.' You said to your reflection.
Applying some make up and braiding your hair in a fishtail trailing down and over your shoulder you begin to look through the clothes that you brought earlier.
(This is your outfit)
As you head into the living area Chris is sitting on the sofa reading the manuscript you had given him earlier. He looks up as you enter the room and his eyes go wide.
"You look amazing." He says standing to greet you. He pulls you into a hug and you rest your head on his chest, taking a deep breath in. "Nell are you sure everything is okay?"
You couldn't hold it in. You had to tell him even if it made things awkward, it still had to be said. Here goes nothing.
"It's just something Brad said to me." You started. You moved over to the sofa and sat down, Chris followed and sat next to you.
"I knew something was up as soon as I picked you up earlier. What doubt has he put in your mind?" Chris asks.
He was being so mature about the situation. This had never happened before. Whenever you had tried to have a conversation with Nathan he would get angry and stomp around like a toddler. This was very new.
