Chapter Fourty

Lisa and Scott start towards you with big smiles on their faces. 

"Nell thank you for coming. How are you?" Lisa asks pulling you into a hug, she pulls back and places her hand on the side of your face in a comforting manner. She looks you deep in the eye, looks you up and down and smiles sweetly. 

"I'm great thank you. It's good to see you again. I made these for everyone." You pass the cookies and brownies to her.

"Well that is very kind of you. The way to my kids heart has always been the sweet stuff. Come in and meet everyone." Lisa takes you by the arm and leads you out into the yard.

As you enter the huge yard everyone turns to look in your direction. You suddenly feel very sick again but you know that this time it is the anxiety building inside you, ready to meet all of Chris' family, just hoping that you will make the best impression. Especially under the current circumstance. Shanna and Carly are the first to come over to greet you.

"Nell, it's amazing to finally meet you. We've heard so much about you." Shanna pulls you into a hug and then Carly follows.

"I've heard so many nice things about you both. I'm sorry it's taken so long for us to meet." You reply smiling at them.

"Come in, come in, let's get you a drink." Shanna says again pulling you further into the garden and introducing you to her partner and other members of the family.

You mingle with Chris' family, occasionally looking over at him playing with the kids or helping grill food on the BBQ. Smiling at him with the kids you couldn't wait to see what he would be like with your own.

"Here drink this we are celebrating." Shanna passes you a glass of champagne.

"Oh thanks but I'm not drinking. I'm driving home." You gracefully decline.

"One drink won't hurt. By the time the kids let you leave it will have completely gone from your system." Shanna responds.

Chris is now by your side with one of the children balanced carefully on his hip. You look up at him and give him a wide eyed look. He shrugs his shoulders. You nod your head.

"Guys can you listen up for a minute." Chris calls out.

Everyone stops talking and turns towards you all. Lisa's eyes are wide. Scott has a huge grin on his face as if he already knows and Shanna and Carly are looking from Chris, to you then Lisa.

"We have some exciting news. Nell and I are having a baby." Chris tells everyone your news.

Cheers and gasps escape the mouths of the people around you. Chris kisses you on the cheek and then hugs his family who have all moved towards you.

"Congratulations." Lisa says pulling you in for a hug. "This is amazing news. I'm always happy to expand the family. How are you feeling?" She asks.

"I'm feeling a little sick if I'm honest. It would have been difficult to hide it today. Especially with all the smells. I figured with me feeling queasy and not drinking either you, Shanna or Carly would've figured it out." You reply with a smile.

"I mean a mother always knows." Lisa smiles. "Well if there is anything that I can do then you let me know."

"Thank you Lisa that means a lot." You hug her again and turn towards Chris.

"Does it seem like everyone is happy?" You whisper.

"We're happy that's all that matters." Chris replies.

Everyone does the rounds congratulating you and Chris on your news. Finally Shanna and Carly come to you.

"We are so happy for you. He is fully punching but we are so happy for you both. We can't wait to have a niece or nephew. You let us know if we can do anything for you." Carly says hugging you tight.
