After the shock of the news from Chris had finally worn off you got back to normal life. Back at work, reading manuscripts and dealing with emails. Nothing was going to prepare you for the phone call you would receive one Thursday afternoon.
As you looked down at your phone the withheld number was calling for the second time in the last ten minutes. Realistically you didn't want to answer. You weren't sure if you were ready for what it was potentially going to be. The relationship being outed on Jimmy's show had caused a lot of people to start giving their opinions.
To begin with everyone was happy and excited for you. However there were a few people that didn't have such nice things to say. But you weren't going to let them get to you.
Picking up the phone you clicked the green button took a deep breathe and waited for the hello on the other end.
"Is this Nell Fargo?" A deep voice asked.
"This is she, how can I help?" You reply sighing wondering what comments would be made.
"This is Paul, I am in town for the next couple of weeks and I was hoping you were free to meet and record a few tracks." The voice replied.
Your eyes went wide and you stood from your chair.
"Hi Paul. Sorry can you repeat that please?" He repeated what he said and you could hear the smile coming through the phone. "I mean I will have to get some time from work but I would definitely love to meet." You reply still in shock, your now pacing the room.
"That's great I will send the details to your manager just let me know if there is any problems. Look forward to seeing you." He hangs up the phone.
You stand again mouth gaped and looking out into the office. Suddenly thinking about what this would mean for you, you take a moment to watch the people you had made friends with and what it would mean to potentially leave them. For now you would just see how it goes.
Leaving your office you walk across the way towards Paul's office. Luckily he was still here. A small knock at the door alerted him of your presence. He ushered you in.
"Nell everything alright you look like you've seen a ghost?" He asks pointing for you to take a seat.
"I'm ok I think. I don't really know how to start." You respond.
"Oh no don't tell me we're losing you already?" He sits back in his chair.
"No, not at all. I have been given an opportunity and I feel that I need to take it while it's there. I am in no way discrediting the opportunity you have given me but this is something that I would really like to take up." You reply stuttering slightly.
"Nell tell me what's going on?" Paul leans forward in his chair. You take in a deep breath and begin to explain.
"I have been approached by a producer to record an album. It may come to nothing and be a complete waste of time. But it's something I've always wanted to pursue but kept in the background." You explain waiting for Paul's reaction.
He sits back in his chair and finally smiles widely at you.
"Nell that's amazing. I did see your performance on Jimmy Fallon. Your good. You need to strike while the iron is hot. You would be stupid not to take the opportunity. I do ask one thing however." He says.
"Anything?"
"A dedication." He laughs. "No I only ask that you try to keep up with any correspondence you currently have. If you can't, let someone know and we can sort it for you."
Tears well in your eyes as you stand in front of a boss that you had grown fond of, letting you pursue your dreams with no irritation or discouragement.
