"yakitori! yakitori! yakitori!" ayumu cheered as he slipped his shoes on.
"[y/n]! are you done?" he called out, already waiting outside of the house.
"yeah yeah," you stepped out of the house, closing the door behind you, "let's go!"
"finally!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands up.
the two of you started walking down the path, towards the village. winter was nearing so the weather was much colder than usual. despite having the bright sun glaring down at you, the cold breeze would blow pass your frames.
you were silently enjoying the walk, the calm atmosphere helping you to relax a bit. until—
"let's see who can get there first!" ayumu suddenly suggested, breaking the silence.
"huh?"
"ready?"
"wait, hold on—"
"set—"
"hey-!"
"goooooooooo!!!" the young boy started sprinting down the path, his voice fading out as he ran away further into the distance.
"gah-! ayumu!" you let out a groan, having no choice but to chase after him.

"alright," you stated, keeping a firm grip on ayumu's hand, "that's enough running, okay?" you took a deep breath, trying to steady your breathing.
"but we only ran for ten minutes—"
"that's long enough," you stated, shaking your head.
"haha, [y/n] needs to start exercising more!"
you let out a tired sigh, "no thank you."
ayumu continued holding your hand, the two of you walking down the busy street, making your way to the stall that sells yakitori.
"oh! good afternoon [y/n]-san and ayumu!" a man who was in his late sixties greeted with a soft smile.
"hello otari-san! i'm here to eat your yakitori again!" ayumu ran up to him, wrapping his arms around the older man.
"oho, aren't you a happy one," otari let out a chuckle, patting ayumu's fluff of hair.
"[y/n], i hope you're doing okay?" he asked, gaving you a warm smile.
