"hello [y/n]-san, what a coincidence seeing you here~"

"ah, shinobu-san!" your eyes widened at the familiar girl behind you.

"you never told me you knew how to use a sword," she teased, "it's a good thing we came in time though, you would've been dead if we were even a second late."

"wait! stop it!" yae yelled, trying to run towards giyuu who had just sliced the demons hands off.

you quickly reached out and grabbed onto the hem of her coat, pulling her back down.

"yae, what are you doing?" you asked, not letting her go.

"he's... he's going to kill him!" she cried.

"you know this already, that is a monster that can no longer be called a human," giyuu firmly stated, "a demon."

"face it yae, that's no longer your father," in one swift motion, he sliced the demon's head off.

its body started disintegrating.

"it's over," shinobu said from next to you.

"yeah, it's finally over," a tired voice spoke.

you looked up to the girl seated in front of you, "yae?"

your eyes widened when you noticed what she was trying to do.

with the tip of the gun pointed to the underside of her chin, she was seconds away from pulling the trigger.

"kocho!" giyuu yelled once he realised what was happening.

pushing yourself up, you quickly grabbed onto her wrist, pulling her hand away from the trigger.

"what are you doing... i've been taking care of everything, just let me die already..." yae cried.

shinobu took the gun out of her hands, making sure she doesn't try it again.

"yae-san..."

"my dad became a man eating demon, now taro and everyone is gone! you people don't understand anything! just leave me alone!"

"i don't care about your grumbles over demons, it's got nothing to do with me," giyuu stated.

"tomioka-san," shinobu frowned at what he had just said. "yae-san, please just bear with your feelings. that's how we pulled through as well."

"tomioka-san, are you not coming along?" shinobu asked, tilting her head to the side.

"no, don't wait for me," came his simple reply.

"ah, alright then," the insect pillar nodded.

"take care, [y/n]-san, yae too," she gave the two of you a small smile before making her way back down the mountain.

once she was out of sight, giyuu turned his attention back to you.

"what are you even doing here?" he asked with a slight frown on his face.

"i came to return this sword to someone," you lifted up the nichirn blade in your hand. "and also to see yae."

letting out a sigh, the water pillar shook his head, "return that sword and head back home, it's too dangerous for you to be out walking around," he stated. "you too," he shifted his gaze to yae, who was still upset about what had just happened.

"yeah... i'm sorry..." the girl mumbled in a soft voice.

the three of you made your way back down to the village. no one said a single word the entire walk back, giyuu being silent as usual and yae silently grieving for her loss.

"it's mio-san!" a familiar voice exclaimed, breaking the silence.

"oh, it's you again," giyuu spoke, watching as the young boy ran out of the house he was waiting in.

"it's ayumu! my name is ayumu!" he reminded him, running over with opened arms. catching the pillar by surprise when he wrapped them around his waist.

pulling away from the quick hug, he placed his hands on the scarf around his neck. "mio-san, look! i'm wearing the scarf i bought the other day! it's pretty right?"

"it suits you," he nodded.

"oh! welcome back yae-san!" ayumu greeted the girl next to you.

"are you cold? your eyes and nose are very red," he pointed out. "that's okay! the nice old lady inside made some hot tea!"

"thank you ayumu, but i'm not..." yae stopped herself before continuing. "never mind, uhm, you and your sister should head back home now, it's getting really late."

"oh, okay then, bye bye yae-san!"

with a tired smile, yae said her own goodbye and entered the house.

"are we going home now?" ayumu asked, grabbing onto your hand.

"i need to return this first," you said, referring to the sword in your other hand.

"what about mio-san?"

"i'll walk with you."

"is that okay?" you asked, not wanting to waste his time, just in case he has somewhere else to be.

"[y/n], do you really think i'm gonna let you go back alone after what just happened."

"oh, well i mean, i managed to defend myself back there, i think that's pretty good," you shrugged.

the three of you started making your way to the place where you had to return the blade.

"i guess, i'm surprised you made it through without a single scratch on you," giyuu stated.

"what happened?" ayumu asked, looking between the two of you.

"oh look, i think that's the place," you changed the subject, walking towards the house where your father's friend lives.

"knock, knock!" ayumu exclaimed.

the door opened, revealing a man in his late thirties. "oh hello, i was wondering when you were going to arrive," the man greeted.

"yeah, sorry about that, here's the sword," you handed the blade over to him. "thank you, well then, be careful on your way back."

"alright, good night," you waved goodbye to the man before leaving.

as you left the small village and made your way back home. ayumu had went from holding your hand to holding giyuu's.

you were surprised that he even allowed ayumu to do so. considering how closed off he was.

ayumu seem to have a lot of questions for the pillar. every question he asks, giyuu would give the most simple reply.

it was kind of funny seeing them communicate like that.

"mio-san, are you going anywhere after this?"

"no."

"you've got nothing to do?"

"i guess."

"do you want to come over and stay the night? we can play some games together again!"

you raised a brow at his question, genuinely wondering how giyuu was going to answer this one.

"well, that depends, if your sister is okay with it."
