TEN YEARS LATER.

"are you guys ready?" you call from the kitchen, wiping a plate dry with a cloth before placing it aside. you dropped the damp cloth on the kitchen table and made your way to the living room.

[s/n] was the first to join you in the living room. his black hair, always messy and unkept, made it look like he had just woken up from bed. he wore a white and plain button-up shirt, clearly too big for him, and a pair of black slacks.

"i'm already done." the ten-year-old boy adjusted the sleeve of the haori he had on, the right side was a dark red, the left a mixture of orange, yellow, and green, strangely patterned. his [e/c] eyes stopped at a small tear in the clothing. "can we go find nezuko-san later? my haori ripped again."

"just get a new one." his sister suggested, strolling into the room. unlike [s/n], her [h/c] hair was neatly tied into a bun with a hairpin holding it in place. the accessory was shaped like a thin branch with tiny cherry blossoms decorating the top. it was a gift she received from her father on her third birthday.

"are you crazy?" [s/n] gave his sister a judgmental look, clutching onto his haori. "this belonged to dad. i'm not gonna throw it away!"

the ten-year-old girl rolled her eyes – the same shade of blue as her father. "i didn't say throw it away." she swept invisible dust off her pink kimono before clinging to your right arm. "we can go now," she smiled, those familiar blue eyes looking up at you with the kind of innocence only a child could bear.

"i picked some extra pretty flowers today," she held up the tiny pouch in her hand, gently swinging it side to side.

you gave her a soft pat on the head, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "you always do."

"mine's better though," [s/n] shrugged. shoving his hands into his pocket, he walked out the front door, ignoring his twin sisters' rebuttal.

"look at him acting cool and all..." [d/n] muttered under her breath as you closed the front door. "tengen-san wannabe."

"don't say that," you playfully tapped her forehead.

"yeah. don't be rude." [s/n] scoffed, holding onto your other hand. "just say you're jealous and go."

"i'm not!" [d/n] retorted, sticking her tongue out at him.

the twins continued to bicker as the three of you made your way down the same path through the woods. with winter over, the air was no longer cold and dry, instead warm and humid. the sun was glaring, but the trees above provided a comforting shade. as you followed a different path that wound its way up a hill, the scenery began to change. the grass fading into a fresher and vibrant green with a large variety of flowers blooming everywhere.
