1:32 a.m.

you couldn't wipe the smile off your face. every time you looked at giyuu, all you could think about was the kiss you shared not too long ago.

the two of you eventually got hungry after the fireworks and decided to have supper. you didn't feel like eating in the village, not wanting to bump into that man again. so giyuu suggested going back to the city.

thankfully, the streets were emptier than before, considering how late it is.  but giyuu insisted on holding your hand, not wanting to lose you to the crowd again. and you went along with it, slipping your hand into his as the two of you wandered around the city.

"what do you feel like eating?"

you.

"something light." you answered, looking around for a place to eat.

you didn't know what prompted you to tell him about the letters you found in his room, but you brought it up anyway.

"why did you keep them? i was so sure you would throw them away," you asked. curious to know.

"why would i throw them away?"

"i don't know. they were just letters from a nosy stranger after all," you shrugged. knowing how persistent you were when writing those letters. "plus, your replies were always so mean. i was sure you hated me."

"i wasn't trying to be rude, i just didn't know how to reply," he explained. "i'm sorry if i hurt your feelings."

"it's okay, i'm just kidding," you smiled, waving him off.

"and i wasn't really planning on keeping the letters," he continued. "but i also didn't want to get rid of them. i don't know. i just decided to keep them after meeting you for the first time."

"ohh was it love at first sight?" you joked, not expecting him to give you an answer.

"no. it wasn't. but i did end up liking you anyway."

this pushed you to ask your next question. "so, how long have you liked me for?"

giyuu went silent as he thought about it for a while.

"i've always liked spending time with you. i mean, i wouldn't have been going over to your house if i didn't." giyuu spotted a small stall and lead the two of you over. "i think i realised i had feelings for you the day we were at the festival, watching the fireworks like today."

that was almost four months ago.

"woah..." and then you recalled. "wait a minute!" you exclaimed. "i remember you said something just as the fireworks went off and i didn't hear you!"

giyuu glanced at you before nodding. "yeah."

"so? what did you say?"

he seemed a little hesitant to tell you, as if he intentionally didn't want you to hear it that night. "i don't remember what i said exactly, but i complimented your looks."

a compliment from giyuu! and you missed it!

"ugh... i'm starting to hate fireworks..." you mumbled, sulking at the missed opportunity.

"why?"

"i want to hear you compliment me," you muttered, letting out a defeated sigh as you stared at the ground.

"you're weird."

.

"okay, that's not-"

"but i like talking to you. you never judge when i talk about my problems, unlike some people..." he said, mumbling out the last part. "you're actually really nice especially when you were taking care of me while i was sick." you noticed the corners of his lips slightly lifting as he spoke. "i... like you best when it's only the two of us."
