Part 37: We Meet Again

Y/n P.O.V

I watch as Eren stares out into the dark distance in front of us. I wonder if he saw the gang but I wasn't so sure because of the look of horror on his face. Surely, the shifters weren't that scary?

"Hey, Eren, you alright?" Eren jumps startled at my sudden question.

"Yeah, I'm totally fine. I'm just a bit cold and not used to being out this late because the Heichou would punish me if I was awake past 7."

I smiled at the thought of Levi. 

Levi was obviously the first memory I got before anyone or anything else. It was hard hiding it when I told Hange I got my memories back of Annie, Reiner, Ymir and Bertoto.

I jumped out of my thoughts when I heard rustling from five different directions around us.

"Y/n..." Eren whimpered and I pulled him closer to my horse.

Because I was so rushed to meet the others I completely forgot that there were titans outside the walls. Now that Levi wasn't here, there pretty much was no chance that I would survive.

I signal Eren to be quiet and to stay put. 

The rustling and crunches came closer towards us. Whoever this was, was coming for us from different directions.

Feeling weak in my legs. I slouched down onto the dirt. Eren followed, not understand at all.

"Pull your hood down." I hissed at him as I pulled down mine.

Eren obeyed my instructions but I felt alarmed and I squeezed him as we hugged. I could see that his eyes were squinted shut.

I shut my eyes. Both Eren and I were squeezing each other tightly. This was not the outcome I was hoping.

It couldn't be the shifters? The rustling was coming from five directions! Plus the group would come together not separately. We were also far from the location I requested.

But, I really wished it was them. I couldn't die yet, not with Eren and not without telling Levi and meeting the boy from the photo.

I flinched once I felt something cold on my arm. I could also tell that whatever touched me had also touched Eren as he jumped out of my arms.

"Y/n," a quiet voice called my name out.

Hesitantly, I slowly opened my eyes and I stared at clear blue ones. 

"Annie?"

Eren and I sat around the fire that Reiner started and we all sat in comfortable silence. 

I looked at Ymir and I could tell she was sending my worried glances every now and then. Annie was completely relaxed as she held my hand tightly.

"Hey uh...Dinner is ready or midnight snack?" Berthold sat down with a large pot in front of us and Ymir followed behind him with a stack of plates.

Berthold served his special dish, Potato Curry. Sasha had begged Berthold to cook something with potatoes while they were still back at the trainee corps and ever since then it had become Bertoto's special dish.

But who could blame him? It was an absolute master dish. 

From the corner of my eye, I could see Eren's jaw drop as he stared at the pot in front of him with drool slobbering down his chin.

As soon as Eren realised I was staring at him he wiped his drool and apologised to the group.

We all laughed at Eren's action but our attention including Eren's, were back on the curry. When Berthold finished serving the portions onto the small plates we all dug in quickly as soon as we got our plate and spoon.

"I'm famished," Reiner mumbled with food in his mouth.

"Agreed". Ymir groaned as soon as she placed a spoonful into her mouth.

I felt tears rise into my eyes as I tasted Berthold's food once again.

I started crying once I had finished my portion.

"Y/n? Are you crying?! Do you want more curry?! There's more!" Berthold panicked at my sudden outburst and I shaked my head at him.

I wiped my tears with my cloak, "No, it's just it's been a while since we could sit down properly and eat like this...as friends. I've missed you guys and I understand why you had to run and escape the walls."

The group awed and we came in for a group hug.

"Hey, Yeager. Come join." Eren nodded and jumped in and we shared a happy laugh.

Eren P.O.V

I stared at the sleeping bodies among me. I smiled to myself. It was nice seeing Y/n happy and a large smile on her face.

I honestly, couldn't sleep. Maybe because I felt full or was hoping that the rest of the cadets could come and enjoy this moment. This was like an expedition except without titans. Though, there could be titans somewhere around these woods.

Feeling a bit sleepy, I was about to lay down when I heard a horse neigh from the distance.

I looked at the five horses that were by Reiner and Berthold's side but they were asleep as well.

Whose horse could it be? Was there someone else in the woods? Could they perhaps followed us?

Feeling panicked, I got up and looked around with Annie's lantern.

"Hello?" I quietly called out to the darkness.

"Hello?!" I whispered softly as I felt chills.

Something was definitely behind me, sending glares or hungry stares towards my back.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I felt so stupid of getting away from the camp spot.

"YEAGER!" A very familiar voice hissed angrily at me.

Damn it...
