Betrayal is a sin for all angels and guardians, but the form of betrayal that leads to better purposes is permitted.
Soft rustles of the trees worked perfectly as a disguise. The sound of dancing and singing guardians by the parlour allowed Carson to sneak into the realm easily. His fingers tapped lightly onto the bottle in his suit. Orange eyes scanned the surroundings attentively, making sure that he did not catch unwanted attention. This is not the right time of attention. Even though he fancies the ideas of guardians swooning over him, this might be the one time he would prefer not to be caught. He hissed at the sea snakes that snarled at his presence, treating him like a bug in the ocean. Clearly, Carson's presence wasn't welcomed.
Carson favoured the idea of meeting Arnav at his mansion, but having the future angel of the Seas rise above ground would cause a huge commotion. That would be the last thing Carson needed. It would be as good as mutilating Arnav in her very own lands. Upon meeting Arnav's arctic blue eyes, he watched the other handing the scroll back to her advisors and arranged a different time for their meet. Their eyes crossed paths multiple times. Arnav's breathes were uneven at this rate. He could see the gills on her neck rise and fall without rhythm. Satisfied, Carson brushed his hair backwards, watching Arnav dismissing his maidens, soldiers, and sacred sea companion from the majestic crystalized throne.
The guardians and angels of the Sea had different forms. They are allowed to transform into their true side that was too angelic to be spoken off. Their hair was clad with blue pearls that contributed to purifying the seas in Halion. Eyes as large as the goldfish on Earth. They ranged from the darkest to the lightest shade of blue. Gills protruding from their necks served as survivals while their scaly legs could transform into strong powerful tails based on their preference. When the doors were shut tight, Carson swam out of his hideout. His wings stabilized his movements in the sea as he flew closer towards Arnav who settled the books down into a circle shelf.
"You should not have come, Carson," Arnav said in her dulcet voice, turning around to face Carson. "Even though our angel, Maren once promised you that he would help, your choices this time are beyond our abilities. Maren is no longer here because of you and I am not putting my people in danger just because you have unsolved problems with your younger sibling. This is your fight, not ours. Do you recall, how many guardians of the Seas had fallen because of you? You slaughter them one by one when they refused to help. You treat my people as if they were nothing but a slave. Whatever fight you are planning, you are on your own now."
"He gave me this," Carson spoke with a glorious smirk carved into his cheeks as he lifted the pearl bracelet from his pocket. "This bracelet is sealed with Maren's promise as will be passed ahead to his chosen. You have to abide by it. It wouldn't make you look if you break a hand-me-down promise from your angel, would it? I have a very simple request and I am sure you are going to grant it. The only flaw in this matter is, are you willing to kill those who abide by me when the fight is over? So, what do you say? Hand me out some of your soldiers or I will tear this place into pieces. Your choice."
Arnav bit her lips at his words. Her first instinct would be tearing Carson limb by limb. However, she scented something different on the man. The scent of fresh blood and peppermint flowers that never belonged to a guardian or angel of the Sun. They were too pure for him. Arnav gracefully swam her way up to the highest shelf, picking out a bottle of yellow pearls. Gesturing for Carson to follow, she opened the door to huge halls where the guardians were resting, partying, and falling into slumber states. The song stopped the second Arnav set foot on her seat while her loyal sea companion circled her scaly feet.
"I apologize for the sudden interruption in this peaceful party," Arnav said, setting the bottle of pearls on the table. "As you all know, Maren secured a promise with Carson during his angel times and it is my duty to fulfil it. I would never want any of you to join in this mess, but our beliefs come first. Promises are sacred to us like the green tourmaline that protects Halion's seas. Carson demands an army from us and I would not force any of you to be a part of this if you do not want to. Those who wish to join..."
Arnav stopped, swallowing the thick lump suffocating her throat. She watched her subjects mumbled among each other. Whispers filled the halls, disrupting her mind for the angel of the Seas had a deep connection to their subjects. She stared out into the empty open, breathing in the air around her while her companion tightened itself around her feet before snarling at Carson in anger. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Carson smirked in victory.
"Those who wish to join can step up," Arnav spoke with her fist tightened against the bottle of pearls. "But, you are not to return to the seas ever again. If this is a choice you make on your own, I will hold on to the tradition because we all know that if I don't, the seas will wreak havoc on Halion."
Carson beamed in excitement when a few of the guardians came up to claim the pearls. Pearls are meant for businesses like this. The angels of the Sea do not provide pearls for just anyone because it symbolizes strong promises that will be fulfilled regardless of its consequences. He hummed at the sight of the soldiers that willingly volunteered themselves. Carson crossed his arms, studying their physique. He admired their bravery as ego coursed through his veins. Slowly the pearls in the bottles began to empty. There were twenty soldiers granted to him by the seas. Turning to face Arnav, he nodded.
"So, I will take my leave and let all of you be in peace," Carson mused, gesturing for his new soldiers to follow him. "Oh, Arnav, be sure to grant us a passage out safely. If you try anything unwanted during our travel out, I will rip your place apart."
The guardians swallowed the pearls given to them as a sign of leaving the seas for the rest of their lives and adapting to the land. Arnav did not let her thoughts wander further because the choices weren't hers to make. She handed a note to her sea companion who took it with his sharp teeth and swirled away to inform the guards. The party continued while Carson and the soldier's silhouette slowly disappeared from their sight. Placing the now empty jar at the centre of the table, she sat herself down on the shell. Her artic eyes scanned the place carefully to make sure that Carson had not set any traps in her place.
"He's diabolical," Arnav's sea companion appeared, adjusting himself on the seaweed pillows and snuggled his chin onto it. "Is he going to return too? Are there any prophecies that we missed in Halion? It feels insane that we have to keep living in a world that seemed to be owned by only him."
Arnav sighed, turning to brush Hophi's horns.
"Nothing in Halion can define this rival between Deminus's sons," Arnav answered patiently, picking up a knife to peel the skin of the fruit on the plate. "They are both devils, Hophi. Carson has always been a devil by heart and actions. Angelo chose to be a devil with consciousness and sanity. Their love fairs differently. If I must admit, this is no prophecy as terrifying as a devil's love for their desires."
