"Angelo," Ansel muttered as she took the plate from Jiang and added. "So, that's your name."
Angelo merely smiled. He nodded in silence. Thanking Annika, he settled himself down on the chair opposite Ansel. The food laid out in front of them smelt wonderful. It had been some time he had to have meals in a group. He missed the bells, the soft music and most of all, the astounding companies he once had. He took a glance at Ansel. Her toasted tan skin shone under the light as he watched her black round eyes lit up when Jiang offered the younger some fruit tarts.
"Be nice," Jiang whispered in her ears, settling her favourite strawberry tart. He offered another one to Angelo, throwing the boy a welcoming smile. "Angelo, this is Ansel."
Ansel cocked her head to the side, acknowledging Angelo's presence, her black eyes studied him carefully. Her mind was in a mess. She didn't know if she should be nice to him. Her guts were warning her about how creepy he had been, but her lips itched to question him. There were so many doubts clustering in her brain. If it wasn't for both Jiang and Annika, she would have stormed him for answers. She was uncertain about where to start, but all she knew was she wanted to operate his brain to study the way he thinks.
"Nice to meet you, Ansel," said Angelo politely. "It's really good to finally meet you face to face."
"Likewise," Ansel stated truthfully. "Aren't tired following me around for almost a year?"
"Ansel!" Jiang scoffed. "That's not the way you communicate with someone who has the guts to come and tell you things face to face."
Ansel bit into the strawberry tart. She raised her eyebrows at Jiang's sudden outburst and placed the tart down on the plate. Brushing the powdered sugar from her fingers, she crossed her arms.
"How else am I supposed to treat him? Shoot him some party poopers?" Ansel questioned. "I'm already confused in so many ways. I just wish I could skip this hospitality and throw him questions, Jiang. There are so many questions I need answers to."
Annika stayed silent in the middle. Her palms clasped together under the table as she studied both her housemates' reactions. No matter how close they are to each other, she realized there were differences between Jiang and Ansel. Ansel hated to dilly-dally and unlike Jiang, she had tremendous trust issues with anyone new. She analyzed her youngest housemate's reactions. Her cheeks were burning red as she tried to suppress her silence almost mimicking a boiling volcano.
"Calm down, guys," said Annika. "Look, we have a visitor here and the two of you bickering here is not going to get this to a conclusion."
Jiang sucked in the tense air. He looked away from Ansel, casting Angelo a genial smile. Motioning for them to continue their meal, he ate the tart to stop his stomach from growling. Jiang sat down on the chair comfortably as he studied Angelo's expressionless face.
"So, um..."
Brushing onto his jet black hair, Jiang sighed. He didn't know where to start. It was complicated, but he tried his best to lighten the mood. Angelo's presence rose a lot of questions that even he wanted to know.
"It's alright," said Angelo, breaking the silence in between them. A slight smile crept up from his lips. "I'm sorry that I'm causing confusion between all of you. Ansel," he called out gently. "I'm going to answer your question and truth be told, I'm not tired of following you around. It was one way to get to know you more."
Ansel lifted her head from her food. She looked into those black eyes that mirrored hers and bit her lips nervously. Her fingers were sweating. The question was how much truth would there be in his words? His black eyes seemed to be masking something yet the confidence in his voice made her rethink twice.
