A tall building painted yellow greeted Angelo happily as he took a turn. He brushed his fingers across the wall gently, letting slight sparks escape his fingers. The sight of the flower shop across the street was a pleasure to his eyes. Those flowers seemed to be welcoming his presence. Once he had met the familiar sight of a green building, Angelo pushed the door opened and the sound of tingling bells filled the air. It was a small coffee house with some famous homemade pastries that he personally loved too. He wasn't a hardcore fan of sweet food, but those pastries were to die for.
Soft jazz music began to fill his ears as he hummed softly to the rhythm. There were already a few customers enjoying their morning coffee and pastries. The scent of fresh coffee filled his nose. His nerves were craving for more even though he already had a cup this morning. He needed more. Even though he loved some home mode coffee, cappuccino and latte were his favourites too. He could not picture anyone hating them. Picking up the cup a customer had left on the table, Angelo took a glance around the coffee house only to let a soft satisfying smile escaped his lips when he caught sight of Lily by the counter.
"Good morning, Lily," Angelo beamed cheerfully and gave her a hug. "Sorry I am late. Here let me get this." He said and took the cup from her.
"Angelo: my boy," said Lily with a smile on her lips as she patted his back. "Thank you. Have you had your breakfast? If you hadn't, I have kept some fresh croissants for you."
"Thank you. I will have it once I am done with the order, Lily."
Lily is almost sixty. Sometimes she would knit when she had free time and at a certain hour of the day she loved reading books about flowers and plants. Lily never had a pet, but she had lots of plants. Angelo remembered the first time he sent her home. He was amazed to see the number of plants she had in her apartment. They were all beautifully groomed that even the bonsai was trimmed skillfully.
Lily had once been in an army, serving the country. Those memories often resurfaced, causing her to mumble in gibberish that he would not understand. It happened in the café too, but people weren't bothered. Angelo often wondered if she had a relative, someone who could keep her company when he couldn't. It actually saddened him to know that she lived alone without anyone to care about her whereabouts.
Angelo put on his apron before he looked up to the receipt earlier and began making the order from his customer. The scent of fresh-brewed espresso filled his nose and he hummed with satisfaction, clicking his boots according to the sound of the music in the air. Once it was done, he decorated it in a love shape before handing it to his customer. He loves this job. It is easy and simple. What is better than having to drink coffee any time of the day with fresh pastries? This is his Heaven, his world and his life.
Walking into the coffee house was none other than a long lost friend. A friend he never thought he'd meet again. He had grown a lot compared to before. His blonde hair was neatly gelled to the left and his round blue eyes examined the place before offering Angelo a warm, inviting smile. He was wearing a simple light blue jumper, a tight pair of leather jeans and black boots. Angelo would not forget those features, not even on his death bed. He couldn't really choose between punching or hugging at the moment.
"A cup of espresso, please. Without sugar," said Jonathan casually and added. "Just as black as my life could ever be."
Angelo bit his inner lips, as he glared at the boy dangerously. "You," said Angelo, suppressing his anger. "Are not supposed to be here, Jonathan. What are you doing here?"
Jonathan snickered as he leaned forward on the counter. "Not to make your life miserable as I am concern. Oh, can I add an extra piece of cherry pie?"
