"Mom?" I repeated and she looked up
"hey," she smiled at me
My mom was definitely pretty, a lot of people always said I looked like her, the ones that got the opportunity to meet her anyways. Her light skin flawlessly beautiful. Her perfect white teeth, and of course her hair always held in a low ponytail.
She made me hate myself so much. I hated being compared with her, she couldn't be a mom for us instead my dad decided to play the two roles while she was very much alive.
"What are you doing?"
"Uh...I wanted to make lunch for you guys," she smiled
"No work today?"
"No," She beamed "Is Roxy back?"
"No," I shook my head "What do you need?"
"Uh..." she laughed nervously "I'm looking for the spices," She admitted
"They are in the top shelf above you," I pointed to the shelf
"Thanks," She smiled at me
I took a shower before heading back downstairs. I walked into the kitchen as Roxy's laughter rang through the house.
She's seated on the island chair with mom and they are both talking about something.
"Ri, look mom is around!" Roxy squealed
"I can see that," I snapped
"Okay, let's eat," My mom smiled showing off her perfect dentition
She served us what I assumed was a casserole. I took a long look at the meal before reluctantly picking up my fork. Surprisingly the casserole was good.
The doorbell rang and I rushed to the door flinging it open.
"Hey," Lee smiled breathing heavily
"uh..."
"who's there?" my mom asked
"No one!" I yelled back, I hated having my friends meet my mom because she didn't have a clue what to say or do around them leading to an awkward silence.
I grabbed Lee's arm before my mom's voice stopped me.
"Is that your boyfriend," she smiled amused and I realized how close i and Lee were standing. I let go of his arm turning to face my mom.
"No, mom" I dragged out sighing
"Mom, he's not my boyfriend, you don't even know my boyfriend and you've seen him at least twice," I groaned in frustration and the smile on her face disappeared
"I'm sorry," she slapped her fore head "I guess I don't remember what he looks like," she smiled awkwardly and I ignored her
"Of course you don't," I rolled my eyes sighing
"Good evening ma'am," Lee spoke up
"Come in," she smiled at him
"Leon?" Roxy frowned
"Hey," he smiled at her
"Lee, I'm sorry we can't have our lessons today,"
"Okay," he smiled and I nodded before escorting him outside
"Your mom is pretty," he smiled
"Of course," I muttered sighing
"I guess that explains why," he smiled
"Why what?" I frowned
He shrugged before winking "Figure it out,"
...
"I was thinking we could catch a movie," my mom smiled leaning over the tabled to tuck a strand of Roxy's hair behind her ear
"Do you have time?" Roxy questioned wide eyed
"I have the whole day," she smiled back
Roxy squealed jumping around "Let's go to the movies! Can I invite my friends?"
"Sure," mom smiled and I stared at the both of them quietly
Roxy invited two of her friends Laura and Rose, they came over and we all went to the movies. The movie started a few minutes ago, my mom seated next to me, then Roxy and her friends.
A few minutes later my mom's phone rang disrupting my attention from the screen. She picked it up and I couldn't catch a word she was saying.
"Riona, I have to go, tell Roxy I'm sorry," she told me hurriedly before standing up and leaving me speechless
She did it again.
She'd left us on high, she got Roxy all excited only to burst her balloon. She gradually robbed Roxy of her childhood. Slowly but surely Roxy would end up realizing she was a liar, the type of liar who'd get you excited and then rob you of all the fun.
Now I needed to figure out how I was gonna tell Roxy.
