Third person's POV
"How was the doctor's visit?" Coco asked as Ethan drove
"Okay," He shrugged "He hasn't said anything serious,"
"We're going together for today's appointment,"
"Okay,"
...
"We're here," Ethan announced parking in front of the restaurant
The afternoon air was warm as he and Coco walked hand in hand into the restaurant.
They settled into their seats going through the menu. The waiter arrived shortly after they placed their order with their meals.
"Looks delicious," Ethan commented
"So..." Coco spoke up staring at Ethan
"Can we talk about it later?" Ethan sighed
"Now seems like a good time,"
"But-"
"Ethan we've been dating for three years and you haven't asked me to meet your parents, we're literally going to college together," Coco sighed
"It's not my fault they're busy people," Ethan shrugged
"Ethan, you're lying to me and you know that, if you wanted me to meet them you would have let me, remember in tenth grade they came back home while we were hanging out together ad you made me hide till they went up to their rooms and then you made me leave. I understood hen maybe because we were young or something but now you don't have a reason,"
"Babe, I get it but not now,"
"Don't you love me or you don't see us heading anywhere?"
"Babe, it's not that," Ethan reached for Coco's hand on the table his cool voice slipping away
The people on the tables close to them stared at their encounter and Coco suddenly felt self-conscious.
"It's fine we don't need to have this conversation here, I'll meet you at your appointment," Coco stood up leaving the table and Ethan paid the bill before running to catch up with her.
"Babe!" He pulled her back and she retreated
"I get it okay," She sniffed blinking back the tears in her eyes "You're scared I'm not what they're expecting,"
He pulled her in for a hug rubbing her back.
...
After Coco had calmed down she and Ethan went for a walk in the city before heading for his appointment with the doctor.
"So we removed a lot of ear wax today but we are not sure exactly what type of infection it is,"
"Okay but nothing serious is going on right?" Coco questioned
"Well, we do believe whatever it is if we don't treat it quickly it could lead to permanent hearing loss, which could potentially affect him playing lacrosse but until our next appointment we can't exactly say much yet,"
"Okay doctor, thank you," Ethan smiled
"And Ethan please come with your parents for your next appointment it's important for them to be here for a possibly life changing event,"
"Thank you," Ethan replied and walked out with Coco
"What do you think?" Coco asked after a while of silence
"We'll see, I guess," Ethan replied shrugging and he drove to the ice cream shop.
"You're lucky it's my cheat day," Coco smiled
"That's the only reason I brought you here," Ethan laughed as they ordered their ice creams
"Aren't you scared?" Coco asked wiping her hands with the napkin
"Of what?"
"You know what," Coco propped her hand under her chin and stared outside the busy street
"I'm terrified but I'm trying to think of the best,"
"You won't play lacrosse, you won't hear my voice," Coco vice cracked and she wiped away her tears
"I'm scared," Coco whispered and Ethan stood up taking a seat next to her and giving her a hug
"It's okay," Ethan assured her as Coco sobbed "This is the second time I've made you cry today, I'm sorry,"
Coco looked into his eyes crying and he kissed her forehead as she held onto his hands.
"We'll get through this," Ethan whispered
"I'm sorry, I know I'm not supposed to be the one crying," Coco sniffed
"It's okay, nothing is going to happen to me, okay?"
Coco nodded hugging him.
