Chapter 12

Third-person POV

"Ethan, Ethan...I'm talking to you," Coco yelled quietly

"We're not having this conversation," He yelled back and she flinched

"Why? We've been together for three years and I haven't met your parents. Am I not important to you?"

"That's not it, you know that," He sighed

"What is it then!" Coco yelled a little louder

"You know they wouldn't approve of you!" Coco recoiled at his statement staring at him shocked

"I hope you don't mean what I'm thinking," Coco sniffed tears welled up in her eyes

"Babe... ughh shit," Ethan palms the side of his face in pain

"Ethan...What's wrong?" Coco moved closer to him afraid her touch might hurt him

"Damn, It's my ear it hurts," He groaned

"Hand me the keys, I'll drive you to the hospital,"

"My appointment is 4pm," He groaned

"But you're in pain, we can't wait that long-"

Ethan rubbed his temples swaying on his feet

"Ethan," Coco placed her arm around his waist preventing him from falling

Coco opened the passenger door, seating Ethan inside and jogging over to the driver's side.

"I told you last month we should go see a doctor and you refused," Coco scolded

They arrived at the hospital soon enough and Ethan was put on a wheelchair. After waiting for almost an hour they are called in for a consultation. The doctor checked Ethan's ear writing down a couple of things and asking him questions.

"What's wrong with his ear?" Coco asked

"He has a chronic ear infection, he needs to be treated as soon as possible to avoid potential damage to the eardrum, we can't exactly say what type of infection it is until we remove the first couple of wax in his ear,"

"When do we come back for the removal?"

"The next two days would be fine and he can get some antibiotics at the pharmacy," The doctor scribbled on a small note handing it to Coco

"Thank you doctor," Coco gave him a small smile collecting the paper and escorting Ethan out.

Coco drove Ethan home walking him inside only to see his babysitter watching a movie.

"Where have you been?" Emma questioned and Coco rolled her eyes

"We had to see a doctor, he has an ear infection,"

Emma eyed Coco sparing Ethan a single glance before they retired upstairs.

"Here," Coco handed him a glass of water and some antibiotics

"Thanks," He replied downing the medicine

"I'll be off now,"

"Wait, how are you gonna get home?"

"I'll take a taxi or call an Uber," She replied heading for the door

"I'll drop you," Ethan stated standing up

"You're not feeling well, it's not a big deal, I'll take a taxi," Coco replied adamantly

"Okay," Ethan sighed "I-"

The door slammed shut before Ethan could say anything else.

...

"Mel! Come have dinner," Her voice rang from downstairs

"I'm not hungry mom!" Mel replied attempting to put on make up

A soft knock came at her door a few minutes later

"Come in," Mel sighed dropping the mascara

"Honey, I made a chicken casserole,"

"Mom, I told you I'm not hungry," She huffed

"This is the third time in a row you're not having dinner is everything okay?" Her mom questioned softly

"No mom! Nothing is okay! Because you keep bothering me! And I'm trying to put some make up on!" Mel yelled backpacking up her make up kit and stuffing it in a bag

"Where are you going?"

"Out with Connor," She replied slamming the door shut after her

She was halfway outside when her mom yelled back "At least have some juice!"

She rolled her eyes getting into Connor's car parked further down the street

"Did you attempt to wear makeup?"

"Yeah," Mel huffed

"It's okay...You can't be as pretty as Riona," He smiled tightly and she rolled her eyes looking out the window

"Don't you think you should join cheerleading? It could help you shed some fat," Connor offered

"Just drive okay?" Mel snapped
