Liam's POV:

Past.

I took a deep breath before knocking on her door. I straightened my shirt and shifted my weight from heel to heel. I hear movement on the other side of the door. and wait. Finally the door opens and I smile.

"Hey," I say.

"Hey," she repeats."You look nice."

"So do you," I say. "Ready?" I ask. She nods and steps out of her apartment. She shuts the door and turns to me. We walk down the hall in silence. I internally debate holding her hand, coming to the conclusion that I should. I reach for her hand at the same time that she presses the elevator button. Once we're on the elevator I turn to her.

"I have to tell you something," I say.

"Is it bad?" she asks. I shake my head.

"No. Of course not. It's just. We aren't going to be completely alone tonight," I say quickly.

"What do you mean?"

"Zayn and his date are joining us," I say.

"Oh really?" she asks. I nod. She doesn't seem mad.

"You're not mad?"

"No. Why would I be?" she questions. I shrug. The elevator doors open and we step off. Zayn and his date, Sarah, I think her name was are standing awkwardly by the door. Cara smiles and goes to greet Zayn.

"Hey Cara," he says in relief. She gives him a one armed hug and I look over at his date. She looks like she's miserable.

"How have you been?" She asks him.

"Good. How about you?"

"Great," she replies.

"So. Shall we get going?" I say loudly. Everyone nods except for Zayn's date. I place my arm around Cara and lead her outside. She shivers slightly as the night air hits her. I pull her closer and she rests her head on my shoulder. I open the passenger door for her and she thanks me and get s in. Zayn and Sarah get in the back.

I pull away from the curb and head towards the restaurant. The ride is quiet. Nothing but the hum of the engine and the soft music coming from the radio. I look over at Cara, who is staring out the window. I gently touch her hand and she looks at me. I mouth the words 'what's wrong?'" She shakes her head and turns back to the window.

Thankfully we arrive at the restaurant a little while later. I go to open Cara's door but she gets out on her own. I stand in front of the car waiting for everybody to get out of the car. We head inside the restaurant and wait to be seated.

Cara leans into me as we are lead towards an empty table. I put my arm around her. She seems tense. I pull out her chair and she smiles and sits down. Zayn sits across from Cara and I sit besides her. Sarah looks irritated as she looks over the menu.

I take Cara's hand under the table and I see her smile again but she tries to hide it by biting her lip. We're all silent while we figure out what to order. Sarah clears her throat and we all look at her.

"I'm going to the restroom. I'll be back," she announces. She gets up and stomps away from the table. Cara lets go of my hand and stands up too.

"I think I'll stop by the restrooms too," she says and walks away. Once shes out of earshot I turn to Zayn.

"Okay. What the hell is going on?" I whisper loudly.

"What are you talking about?" he asks, dumbfounded.

"Why did you really want to come tonight? And don't tell me because of Sarah. You aren't the least bit interested in her. I can tell," I say. He sighs and sits back in his chair.
