Cara's POV:

Past.

The weekend at my grandparents was going surprisingly well. They couldn't get enough of Liam. My grandma loved him and grandpa secretly liked him but was purposely giving him a hard time. But Liam handled it like an expert. I think that's why my grandpa liked him, because Liam didn't fold under pressure.

I was baffled by how seamlessly he fit in with my family. He rolled with whatever they threw at him. The jokes, the interrogations, even the stories. Honestly it made me love him even more. But I was lucky. The first ever guy that I brought home and he was perfect. This whole weekend was perfect.

But it was Sunday now. We'd have to head back to the school tonight to make it back before class in the morning. So of course grandma planned a big dinner for us. Her famous roast beef and mashed potatoes with applesauce raisin cake for dessert.

We were all sitting in the living room when she came out of the kitchen.

"I need someone to run to the store for me," she says. Liam raises his hand immediately.

"I can go," he volunteers.

"Oh no. You're a guest," she says.

"Let him. He offered," grandpa says.

"I don't mind. But Cara has to go with me. I'm not familiar with this area," he says.

"Alright." She moved to her purse and handed Liam a twenty. "I need potatoes and raisins. Cara knows which ones to get," she nods to me.

"Not a problem," Liam says.

"Okay. We'll be back," I say. I weave my arm through Liam's and pull him out the door. I hand him the keys and he groans.

"I hate driving your car," he whines.

"Get over it. It's only a few blocks away," I say. He smiles and makes a U-turn onto the street. Once we get to the store he takes my hand as we walk inside. I hang onto his arm tightly and he kisses the top of my head.

"Okay. So where do we find these ingredients?" he asks. I lead him through the store to get the potatoes first. We grab a small bag and then head to the raisins. He stops in the middle of the aisle and picks up a box of oreos. "Look. Red velvet oreos."

"Really Li?" I look at him and shake my head in amusement.

"What? Oreos are like the best," he grins like a little boy in a candy store.

"Okay. But we aren't here for oreos," I playfully scold him. He makes a dramatic groan and frowns. I roll my eyes and walk farther down the aisle. I search for the raisins my grandma always gets. I pick up a medium pack.

"Cara," Liam calls me and I turn to look at him. Now he's holding a pack of cake batter oreos. I smile and shake my head again.

"Cara?" I turn at the sudden and unfamiliar voice on my other side. The raisins fall from my hands. Oh god. Not him. "What are you doing here?" I immediately look to the floor. Why is this happening? Why now?

"Nothing. I was just leaving actually," I say and reach for the raisins on the floor. Now Liam decides to rejoin me.

"What's going on?" he asks. He looks between me and him.

"Nothing. I was just saying that we were just leaving," I say and shoot him a look. He scrunches his eyebrows in confusion.

"Oh. Well I think we can stay a little longer. So who's this?" he asks.

"I'm Chris. Cara and I went to school together," he says and holds a hand out to Liam. Liam shakes his hand.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Liam. Cara's boyfriend," he says. Chris chuckles and Liam gives him another confused look. "Something funny?"
