Cara's POV:
Past.
"So are you going to tell me what's wrong?" I ask casually as I copy down a definition. He looks up at me and drops his pen.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he says. I stop writing and give him a look of disbelief. I've only known Liam for about a month now but I can tell something was wrong. He wasn't being his usual goofy self. And in the last hour he hasn't tried flirting with me once. Now that's not normal.
"Really? Then why have you hardly spoken in the last hour?" I question quirking my eyebrow up. He shrugs nonchalantly.
"Because we're studying," he says.
"That's never stopped you before," I say. At that he has nothing to say. He sighs heavily and shakes his head.
"It's nothing," he mumbles. I reach across the table and place my hand over his.
"You can tell me. Remember I want to make a career out of helping people," I say with a smile. He nods.
"It's my parents. They got into a fight last night and my dad went drinking but my mom is telling me it's not serious. But the only time my dad drinks is when he's stressing or is upset," he says quickly but quietly.
"Do they fight a lot?" I ask. He shakes his head.
"No. They hardly ever fight. Which is why I don't understand what is different this time," he says. I could tell this was really bothering him
"Maybe it is something small," I suggest. He shrugs.
"I don't know. It just doesn't seem like it. And I know my parents," he says.
"Or maybe they're not telling you so that you won't worry. Sometimes you have to let things fix themselves," I tell him. He looks at me and nods.
"Maybe you're right. It's just bothering me not to know," he says. I needed to help get his mind off of things. And I thought I had the perfect idea. Not everybody loved learning but maybe learning in a different way would get his mind off of things. I stand up and he gives me a look of confusion.
"Come on," I say. He just looks more confused. "We're going to get your mind off of things for a while." He gathers his things and follows after me.
"Where are we going?" he asks.
"It's a surprise but trust me it'll be fun," I assure him. I lead him to my car. He gets in the passenger seat and I start the car. I turn to him and smile. "Get ready for a new found education." I say and back out of the space. Once we're on the street I head in the direction of one of my favorite museums in all of Pennsylvania.
"Still not gonna tell me where you're taking me?" He asks. I smile.
"You'll see when we get there," I say.
"You're not like taking me somewhere to kill me are you?"
"I can't disclose that information," I joke. He laughs once and turns back to face the road. About thirty minutes later we pull up to the Franklin Institue. We get out and he meets me at the back of the car.
"A museum?" he questions. I don't answer him instead I start towards the entrance. He follows after me quickly. "You know I'm not all that into history." I still don't answer him. I take out my wallet and pay for us to go through. The guy gives us a ticket and I hand one to Liam. He looks down at it and follows me blindly into the muesum.
"And I really don't see..." He looks up and his mouth drops. I grin up at him and he looks around in awe.
"So what do you want to see?" I ask.
"I have no idea," he says. I grab a pamplet and hand it to him. He opens it and looks at the many colorful pictures and descriptions. "I want to see it all."
"Well then we better get started," I say and grab his hand. I pull him in the direction of the observatory. We stop and he looks at the room in awe. "This is the observatory. You can stargaze and learn more about the Sun and planets." He turns and smiles at me.
"Well then lets learn," he says.
* * *
"There's one more thing I have to show you," I say. I take his hand and pull him towards the only thing we haven't seen. The museum is much less crowded because most of the people have left with their groups and it's almost closing time.
"What else is left?" he asks.
"The heart," I say.
"The heart?" he questions. I drop his hand and face him. I open my arms and gesture behind me.
"The heart," I repeat. He glances behind me and laughs.
"It's literally a giant heart," he exclaims and I nod. A voice sounds over the loud speaker telling us that we have thirty minutes until closing.
"Come on. We have to go inside," I say and he follows me. He looks around at everything. I watch him as he reads each and every plaque in the tunnel. Finally we reach the inside and he laughs again.
"We're now standing on the inside of a giant heart," he says.
"Indeed we are," I say and nudge him with my elbow. "This is one of the reasons why I wanted to become a doctor. My grandfather brought me here when I was little and I fell in love with it. Mostly the brain and heart exhibits." I explain.
"I can see why. This is pretty amazing," he says.
"Yeah it is," we stand there looking at the center of the heart. He slowly intwines his fingers through mine and I look down at our hands. The gesture feels intimate. I feel him staring at me. I slowly lift my head and look at him. He is, in fact, staring at me.
"Thank you," he says. He's standing much closer then I expected.
"For what?" I ask quietly.
"For distracting me and showing me this place," he says. A smile slowly makes its way onto my face.
"Anytime," I say. He steps even closer and reaches out to touch my cheek. My breath catches and my heart races. He leans in slowly and his lips gently touch mine. Suddenly a fire errupts inside me and threatens to burn me up. He drops my hand and places it on the other side of my face and kisses me deeper. I kiss him back to the best of my ability.
I can't think straight. I'm not aware of what's going on around me. I'm much too lost in this. I feel like the room is spinning and making me dizzy. I've never really been drunk but this is how I imagine it. And all to soon it ends.
He pulls away and I slowly open my eyes. He's smiling at me again and his hands haven't left my face. I want to kiss him again but before I can do that someone clears their throat and we both turn to find a security guard. Liam steps away from me and I sigh.
"We're going to be closing soon," he says and walks away. Once he's gone Liam turns back to me and laughs.
"We should get going," he says and I nod. We walk towards the exit and he slips his hand in mine again. I couldn't explain the emotions running through me but I sure as hell liked them.
A/N: Sorry I haven't updated in like two weeks I've had major writers block. But finally something came to me. So here it is. I hope you enjoy.
