Liam's POV:

Ten years later: Present time.

"Liiiiiaaaammmm," I hear Arolyn shout from downstairs.

"In my office," I call back. I hear the rapid clicking of her heels all the way up the stairs. She appears in the doorway a minute later.

"Liam it's been two weeks," she starts towards me excitedly. "You know what that means."

"Another one Arolyn?" I sigh.

"Yes. Another one," she says. "I want a baby Liam." I stop typing on my laptop and turn my chair to face her. She had her hands on her hips with a disapproving look on her face.

"I know. So do I," I mumble. She drops her hands and slowly crosses over to me. She sits on my lap and I automatically put my arms around her. "It would be easier if we went to a doctor."

"Why? So we can pay thousands of dollars just for a doctor to tell us that we can't have a baby?" she asked bitterly. She was against doctors unless they were absolutely necessary.

"You don't know that. They could help us. Tell us what we're doing wrong," I try and convince her again. She shakes her head and stand up.

"No thank you," she says and picks up the bag she dropped on the floor. "I'll be in the bathroom. I want you in the bedroom in five minutes." she orders and leaves my office. I turn back to my computer and stare at the reports I was typing up.

Arolyn and I have been trying for a baby for years with no luck. And honestly it was tearing us apart. Every time we took a test and it came out negative we would fight. And it was always the same argument.

I reluctantly rose from my desk and went to our bedroom. I sat on the bed and waited for her to come out of the bathroom. She opened the door a few minutes later with the test in hand. She had a small smile on her face.

"On the count of three," she said. I stood up and started towards her. "One. Two. Three." we say together. She holds up the test and her face falls.

"What does it say?" I ask. She shakes her head solemnly. "Oh." I say and look away.

"Oh?" she questions harshly. I look at her and she's glaring at me.

"What?" I ask.

"That's all you have to say is oh?" I stare at her and sigh.

"Yes Arolyn. What do you want me to say?" I ask.

"You could say more then just oh," she says and crosses her arms. I lick my lips and shake my head.

"Don't start," I warn. She scoffs.

"Don't start what Liam?" she shouts. I sigh and turn to leave. I refused to deal with this right now. She shouts my name and I hear her following me. "So you're just going to walk away now?"

"Yes. Because I don't want to fight right now," I say and walk down the stairs. She's still hot on my heels.

"We're not fighting. I'm trying to talk to you and you're just walking away," she says. I walk into the kitchen and open the cabinet. "So now you're not going to say anything?"

"Arolyn please. Just stop. I'm sorry I can't give you a baby. But it's not all on me either. You yelling at me every time the test comes back negative isn't going to help. So just shut up for once," I shout. She takes a step back as if I just slapped her. Her eyes are hardset and she huffs.

"I hate you," she mumbles.

"Then why did you marry me?" I ask.

"I don't know," she says quietly. I let out a humorless laugh and shake my head. I walk past her out of the kitchen. She turns to watch me as I grab my keys. "Where are you going?"

"I'm leaving. I'll give you some time to figure out why you married me. If you can't then maybe we should stop torturing ourselves," I say and slam the door. I rush down the driveway to get into my car. Once inside I crank up the heat and turn up the music. Before disappearing down the street I see her looking out the window.

I'm not sure where I'll go but I needed to get out of that house. She was driving me insane. Every damn time that test came back negative she would find some reason to blame me for everything then we'd fight. She took it too far this time. She actually said that she hates me.

What reason did she have to hate me? I gave her everything. I treated her right. I loved her. Until we started trying for a baby. Then everything went wrong. For some reason we just couldn't have a baby. We had done everything. From the ovulation shedule even trying different positions that are supposed to help. Nothing worked.

When I had suggested giving up that's when it really got bad. She insisted that we keep trying and then would get mad when nothing changed. Who knew not being able to have children could be so nerve wracking.

I start driving towards my job. I know it's Saturday but my office always made me feel relaxed. It had a sort of calming effect on me. Just as suspected there's only one car outside the building. Caitlin. Caitlin was my assistant. She was honestly a life saver. She always had her work done and then some. I really needed to pay her more.

I debated for a minute if I should go inside. In all honesty I just wanted to be left alone. I drive right back out of the parking lot. Back to driving aimlessly. I didn't know where to go. I hoped that she didn't take too long to make up her mind.

My phone starts ringing and I fish it out of my pocket. Arolyn's name and picture flash on the screen. I sigh and hit answer.

"Hello?" I say cautiously.

"I've made up my mind," she says solemnly.

"Should I come home then?" I ask.

"You can," she says and I'm about to let out a sigh of relief when she speaks again. "But I won't be here."

"So it's over then?" I ask.

"For now yes. I think we need some time apart Liam. I'm going to go stay with Louis for a few weeks. After that we can both decide if this marriage is a good idea. But as of right now we need the space," she explains.

"Okay," is all I say. I couldn't believe she was leaving. Was our marriage really that bad? I thought we were fine. Well besides the baby mess.

"Goodbye Liam," she says and the line clicks. I throw my phone on the passenger seat and slam my hand on the steering wheel. I didn't want to lose her. I couldn't. I'd already let go of one person I loved. I couldn't go through that again.

I pushed down on the gas harder and sped towards home. I had to stop her from leaving. My hands are clutching the wheel tightly and everything is buzzing by quickly. So quickly that I don't notice the pick up truck coming straight at me.

The last thing I register is the sound of metal on metal and then the world goes black.
