My phone buzzed on the glass table, yet again, as I received a text from Mia.

'So there is no way AT ALL that you could?' She asked, for the third time.

'Nope, I'm grounded.' I replied. I had been invited to a party by seven different people. Two girls from my English class, Mia, Luke, a boy from art, Michael and surprisingly Ashton. But my dad won't budge.

"You can add another week onto my punishment. Another TWO weeks if I have to." I begged.

"I said no Emily. No means no." He said firmly, sitting back down on the couch as I chucked my phone back onto the coffee table. There was a crack and the glass shattered loudly.

"Oh shit! Sorry! I didn't mean to!" I tried explaining.

"Go to bed. Just get out of this room. I don't care." He said quietly. I walked fast into my room. But not before picking my phone up on the way out. It rung in my hand as I reached the doorway to my room.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Oi, the party's in full swing! I swear the whole schools here! Sneak out or something!" Mia yelled back over the noise. There was loud music and people talking, laughing.

"No, I cant." I said, finally knowing I'd been beaten. I threw myself onto my bed hanging up the phone. I didn't want to hear about how great it was or who's hooking up with who.

I plugged my iPod in and closed my eyes, not bothering to get changed.

---------------------------------------------

'How yah feeling?' I text Mia at lunch.

'Like shit.' She replied instantly. I laughed to myself and nearly text her back, coming over, but then remembering I was grounded, i stopped myself. I wasn't so sure if mine and Mia's day off was worth the grounding. I didn't know how long I had been grounded or how long I had left.

'Have fun x' I text and left my phone on my bed. I trod down to the kitchen only to find dad sitting there, staring into space.

"Dad?" I asked cautiously putting a hand on his shoulder.

"Emily." He said, turning to face me with a huge smile. I grinned back, happy he wasn't angry. I made my way around him and to the fridge, pulling out some milk.

"Coffee?" I asked him, on my best behaviour.

"I would love one." The phone rang and he stood up to get it. He paused, listening to the person on the other side speak, his face not giving anything away. I stirred his coffee while pouring water into my hot chocolate. He laughed and I turned to face him.

"Okay, yes, she would love that." He answered and hung up. He glanced at me and took his cup before sitting back down. I sat down across from him.

"Who was that?" I laughed nervously, knowing they had been talking about me.

"Oh, no one." He smirked.

"Dad, come on." I moaned. He stuck his tongue out at me and stood up.

"Oh, by the way, your grounding is up tomorrow and Ashton is taking you somewhere. Apparently he hasn't seen you in awhile and wants to catch up." Dad laughed and walked through the doorway. I let out a breath I didn't know I had been holding and a smile crept onto my face.

I pulled out my phone and text Ashton. 'It took you long enough.' After I had pushed send, I sat there confused. I didn't know what I had meant for that to mean, but I knew Ashton would understand whatever it was. That's how our friendship worked.

Friendship. I cringed thinking about it like that, but then I also felt my heart drop as I thought of not dating Luke. I wanted two different things, but I could only have one. For all I knew, only one wanted me aswell.
