Ashton's POV.

Last night I lay in bed thinking of everything that could have happened in that room with Luke and Emily. All I know is that they're both single and Luke's pretty upset about it. As much as I liked Emily, I didn't know if I could do that to Luke just yet.

Of course, we had said that nothing would change between us, but I think we both knew someone would get hurt. At the time we were both willing, if it meant we got to have Emily. Luke got the bad end and I felt terrible.

I rolled over and closed my eyes, trying to clear the thoughts from my head so I could sleep. This only made me think more.

What if Emily just didn't like either or us? I saw Michael and her getting quite close after practice... But I knew that wasn't it.

I kind of knew she liked me. I think I had for a while now. And that's when I decided, fuck it. I'm going to get her.

I had seen Emily at school today, more than once. I don't know what came over me, I just couldn't talk to her. One time I was about a metre behind her and I just stopped and got all choked up. I walked away quickly before she could turn around.

Right now, I was sitting at the kitchen table, the tv blaring from the next room. Only my mum was home, but I got up to shut the door anyway and sat back down. I picked up my phone and called Emily's number. It rang and straight away I hung up.

"Stupid." I grimaced smacking my head on the table. I rang the number again and waited for two rings before my thumb pressed the end button.

"What am I doing?!" I groaned to myself. This time, I was going to talk to her, I told myself.

The phone rang about twelve times before I finally hung up, guessing she was either ignoring me or didn't have her phone. Emily always had her phone.

It's okay, I murmured quietly. You can can talk to her tomorrow you idiot. My phone vibrated, telling me I had a new voicemail. I heard some music in the background of Emily's soft humming before she yelled angrily into the phone.

"TALK TO ME IN PERSON YOU JERK."

I was shocked by the emotion in her voice. Without thinking, I grabbed my jacket and called out to my mum.

"I'm going out."

"Be back before 9." She called back as I walked out the front door, closing it behind me. I walked straight to Emily's house and knocked on the door.

"Coming!" She yelled and turned down the music that was blasting from the lounge. I could hear her footsteps as she ran around the house, fixing things. The sound stopped and I imagined her fixing her hair in front of the door before she opened it. She looked surprised.

"Hi." She stuttered, obviously nervous.

"Can I come in?" I asked. She nodded and lead me down to her room. I sat down on the bed, but she just stood, almost leaning against the wall.

"So?"

"So..." I muttered not making eye contact, looking around her room instead. "I heard about you and Luke."

The second that came out of my mouth, I mentally slapped myself.

"You were in the same house when it happened and you are one of his best friends. Of course you were going to hear..." She shot back, looking uncomfortable.

"Sorry."

"Okay." The silence was deafening. We just stared at each other.

"Why did you come over?" Her hands shook as she spoke. She looked so close to tears.

"Sorry, I just wanted to talk to you." She took a deep breath.

"I'm really sorry about what happened the other day. Is that what you wanted to hear?"

"No, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything." I apologised, but not meaning it. I was happy she knew. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

"I'm glad you did." She whispered looking at the ground, so quietly I wasn't sure I'd heard her right.

"What?" I asked.

"I'm glad you did." She spoke clearly locking our eyes together. I smiled.

"Does that mean.." I started.

"It doesn't mean anything." She interrupted, becoming stubborn. I stood and walked towards her quickly, feeling confident. I gently pushed her against the wall.

"If I dare you to do one last thing and you do it, you win. If not I win. Deal?" I asked, feeling goosebumps run down her arms. I smirked, glad I had this effect on her. She gulped, but nodded anyway.

My face neared hers and I whispered, "I dare you to kiss me."
