And the door was locked. Taking a look outside, Jaemin soon turned around and walked back into the gallery and towards the room at the back where the books were supposed to be.
Where Jeonghan and Jie were supposed to be.
Eyes wide, Jaemin rushed into the now empty room. Panic rising as he got closer to the office room, he stopped at once when he reached the door.
He banged his fist against it. Again and again and again.
And then he stopped when he heard a gun go off inside the room.
Standing still, glaring at the door emptily, he held his breath.
He didn't know what to say. He didn't have anything to say.
"Be quiet or I will shoot the girl!" Jeonghan warned loudly. Hearing that allowed him to breathe.
So she was fine?
He took a wobbly step back.
He didn't know what he was supposed to do, so he just hoped that, for now, Jie wouldn't do anything stupid.
Stay calm.
Don't provoke him.
Jie sighed as she stepped forward. "I'm bored," she admitted as she closed the gap between her and the gun's muzzle. "Tell me what you want or shoot me. Don't waste my time."
Amused, Jeonghan grinned. He nodded as if he agreed, yet didn't make it sure which part of her statement she agreed with - talking or killing?
However, Jie couldn't muster up enough energy to try and pretend like she cared for or was bothered by the situation she was in.
Seeing that, the boy hummed as he clicked the safety button on his gun and dropped his arm. He took a step back and sat down on the edge of his desk.
"Did Li Huang drive you mad or something?" he asked. "Is that why you left and made yourself a walking target? You are basically a goner."
Hearing him say that was almost insulting. Because Jeonghan made it sound like a bad thing, yet having the liberty to die was still more than she had when she was locked in that house with Li Huang.
But it wasn't important now, so she shrugged.
"Did he drive you mad?" she asked back. "Is that why you are dumb enough to be on his side?"
Surprisingly enough, her cocky behaviour didn't make him angry, nor did it provoke him even the slightest. He was amused and it stayed that way, while Jie kept her bored expression.
He looked down, pressed the grip of his gun into his thigh as he thought about what to do next.
"Maybe he really drove me mad," Jeonghan admitted quietly, then laid his eyes on her. "That's why I need your help."
Speechless, Jie studied the boy. He looked sincere and sounded sincere. It was the first time that she genuinely looked interested in the situation ever since they had entered that room.
However, she didn't trust him. "How could an insane goner help you out?" she questioned.
Jeonghan smiled as he got up. "Good question, I'm glad that you ask."
He took a couple of steps, walked forward to the girl and stopped next to her. While she looked towards one end of the room, he looked towards the other.
