She wasn't sure what to do. She was overwhelmed by the situation.
Hesitantly, she reached out to grab the sleeve of Jaemin's sweater - but he pulled away. So Jie moved closer.
She looked him up and down.
"Are you angry?"
"Of course I am angry," Jaemin said. "You played a game of Russian roulette for fun?"
Which she wasn't sure how to answer. On the one hand, yes, he was right. On the other, there was no risk included so...
"I wasn't in danger at all."
"Meeting Jeonghan alone was dangerous," Jaemin argued.
That she agreed to. "But it's okay now, I trust him," she then determined with a smile. "I approve."
"That's not the point." Upon hearing his reply, Jie frowned. She leaned her head against his shoulder and grabbed his arm.
"Sorry."
It was upsetting to hear how anxious she seemed. He didn't want to be cold towards her but he got worried. He worried about her well-being, yet it never seemed like she did the same.
She just didn't care.
However, just as she apologized again, Chenle entered the room.
He saw the two next to each other. He saw Haechan sitting opposite them, eyes on his phone. Inside the kitchen was noise, as Jeno and Renjun were busy preparing breakfast.
Chenle looked at Haechan. "Why are mom and dad arguing?" he asked, walking past the two older ones cautiously.
"She met some guy in secret," Haechan replied drily.
"Ohoo~" the younger chimed excitedly. "Jealousy then?"
He shook his head. "It's that guy that threatened to kill her before."
"Oh." Chenle frowned, looked at Jaemin. "But didn't Jaemin do the same?"
While Jie kept her eyes on her boyfriend, Haechan and Jaemin both looked at Chenle. Haechan nodded, slowly agreeing, but Jaemin gasped.
"You can't compare us!"
"I mean..." Chenle said. "Well... but kinda?"
Frustrated, Jie reached out to grab Jaemin's chin. Holding it with two fingers, she gently turned his head so that he ended up facing her. But he didn't look at her just yet.
"I knew you wouldn't approve, that's why I didn't tell you. I admit that was dumb," she said. "I really am sorry for that."
Jaemin took a deep breath. He knew the gun was fake but it wasn't about that.
"Can you..." Jaemin began before looking up hesitantly, "...just promise me something?"
Jie was quick to nod. She had nothing much to fear anyway. He was probably going to say that he wanted her to be more straight-forward, to always inform him about what she was doing or to-
"Value yourself a little more."
"Of c--" Jie cut herself off, surprised by the request. "Wait, what?"
"Yeah."
Jie frowned. "That's all?"
"'That's all'?" he repeated. "You talk as if that's something easy for you to do."
