Baekhyun glared at the younger boy impatiently.
"You know," he began, "I was actually supposed to meet Taeyong."
Unimpressed, Jaemin hummed. "And I was supposed to go on a date with my girlfriend," he countered. "But obviously things didn't turn out well for either of us."
Unsure how to react, Baekhyun just silently acknowledged the other one's reply. He rolled his shoulders back, stretched his torso a little and glimpsed at the door.
"Is Taeyong going to come?"
"Did you ask him?"
"He's not answering my messages."
Jaemin nodded, looked at the older one almost sympathetically.
"Looks bad for you, doesn't it?"Rolling his eyes, then ignoring him, Baekhyun leaned back in his chair and attempted to enjoy the café's calm atmosphere.
Emphasis on attempted.
"Hey, do you know a girl named Jie?"
Jaemin hummed. "She's my girlfriend."
Baekhyun frowned. "You are dating that weird girl?"
"Yeah. So?"
The older shrugged. "When I talked to her the other day, she seemed oddly detached. At the same time though she seemed so unbothered like she completely trusted me."
"Yeah. She trusts you because Taeyong trusts you," Jaemin said.
"Why?" Unwilling to go into detail, unwilling to talk about a story that wasn't his, he shrugged. "So wordy, huh?"
"I am not like her," he explained. "I won't just trust you like that."
It made Baekhyun curious. He leaned closer to the boy. "Why not?"
Jaemin smirked, amused by how stupid he felt the question was.
"A change of heart? Wanting to be one of the good guys after not giving a shit for years?" He huffed in disbelief. "How random is that?""It's not," Baekhyun was quick to defend himself. "It's not random and not out of the blue."
"Then?"
"Taeyong is persistent. We have been friends for a while. He has been pestering me about this for as long as we have known each other." He smiled. "He is a great friend and my biggest role model. I know who he is so I knew that I messed up when we ended up on opposite sides."
It sounded heartfelt and convincing. Honest.
Jaemin almost wanted to accept it.
Almost.
"Why now?" He raised a brow, wondering. "You have been friends for years."
"He said he needed my help." Actually, that would have been it. That was all he had to say but judging by Jaemin's glares it wasn't enough. So he added, "He has always been there for me. The least I could do is repay him. Don't you think?"
Jaemin didn't react much. He was torn.
Should he believe that?
It sounded reasonable, didn't it?
Breaking up his train of thoughts, a call came in. Both boys' eyes jumped down to Jaemin's phone right away. He quickly answered the call.
"Taeyong?" Jaemin asked, Baekhyun's eyes sticking on him persistently.
