he is literally just breathing but I am over here dying

His tight, dark grey sweatshirt was loosely tugged into his black cargo pants that stopped where his boots started. His fingers brushed over the handle of his gun before he wrapped them around it.

Muzzle facing the ground, he stood to the right of the door, while Jeno stood to the left. The older reached to grab the door handle while holding the keycard to the hotel room in his other hand.

He looked at Jaemin, then at the rest of the Dreamies that waited behind them for the sign to enter. And that sign came from Jaemin in the form of a curt nod.

Quickly, Jeno held the card to the sensor, then pulled the handle down and pushed the door open, allowing Jaemin to enter right away. He pushed inside quickly, followed by the other boys that backed him up.

Inside the room, shuffling could be heard. A chair scraping over the floor, then an angry,

"I said not to disturb-!"

Once turned around, the man froze. He looked at the boys with wide eyes, speechless at the sight. Parallel to his eyes stood the muzzle of Jaemin's gun, not even an arm-length away.

It was also him who had the honour of calling the man's name.

"Doyun." He took a step towards him, handcuffs resting loosely in his other hand. "Good to see you."

He stopped in utter disbelief, let out a scoff at the words of the younger boy. A boy that sent shivers down Doyun's spine by merely appearing in front of him. Because to Doyun, Jaemin was like a ghost.

An old nightmare, coming back to haunt him.

While Jaemin never forgot his brother, Doyun pretended like the younger never even existed. He didn't have the benefit of anger or rage to keep him in his mind, his name and face faded away a long time ago.

To Doyun, he was, at most, a long-forgotten memory.

It had been years since they talked. It had been years since he had sworn to take revenge. Back then, Doyun had laughed.

Stupid kid, he had thought.

What did he know about life and revenge anyway? Who was he to get all riled up over the death of a man that wasn't even his real father?

Doyun looked at Jaemin in surprise. "It was really you, huh?" he asked, grinning all of a sudden. "Huang said I should be more careful." He raised a brow. "But I told him that that weak kid wouldn't be able to harm me if he tried."

His eyes trailed down the boy. Doyun knew that there wasn't much he could do right now. Jaemin had the upper hand. But judging by his expression and shallow breathing...

"Why are you so nervous?" Doyun asked, took a step closer to Jaemin. "Do I make you angry? Or are you scared?" He laughed. "That's why I can't take you seriously."

Jaemin wanted to talk - he really did. Tell him that he was wrong and that he didn't care at all. He wasn't angry and he wasn't scared and he didn't feel anxious - he wanted to say all that.

But that wasn't true and, right now, it was hard to lie.

He came closer again - and Jaemin took a step back. "Ridiculous."

"Jaemin," Jeno called him and the younger looked at his friend right away. Comfort - he was looking for comfort in his best friend.

Comfort that quickly got buried by Doyun's voice.

"You are still that same lonely kid, aren't you?" He shook his head, almost seeming disappointed. "We didn't talk in years but you didn't change a bit. You are just as weak and pathetic as--"

An audible crack snapped through the room, followed by a thud as Doyun crashed to the ground. He groaned, held his face in his hands.

Jie inhaled sharply. "Fuck," she muttered under her breath. She shook her hand, grimaced in pain as she looked at her red knuckles. "That hurt more than I thought it would."

With wide eyes, Jaemin looked at his girlfriend in surprise.

"Good one, Jie!" Chenle encouraged her while Jisung gave her a thumbs up.

And Jie, after finally taking her eyes off her hand, looked up at Jaemin who was watching her closely.

She didn't say anything, just reached out and grabbed the hand in which Jaemin held the handcuffs. She gave it a squeeze.

"Don't let his words sway you," she said, then smiled as she looked around. "We all stand behind you, so don't be afraid either."

It had taken Doyun a second to register the name but eventually, he frowned.
"Jie?" he called her name but didn't manage to attract her attention.

"Finish this so you can let the police take over from here," Jie said, referring to a special handful of officers that enjoyed the trust of the Dreamies and was approved of by Baekhyun. "Don't waste your energy on him." She leaned forward, placed a kiss on his cheek.

Intrigued, Doyun watched the two. He was surprised to see how close they were.

Then Jie rubbed the back of her neck. "I actually promised Kun not to come inside," she admitted sheepishly. "I will leave first. See you in a bit."

"See you," he said, reluctant to let her leave and feel the warmth of her palm slip away.

Once she was gone, Doyun huffed. He sat up, wiped the blood running down his lip and chin onto his sleeve and looked up at Jaemin.

"Are you dating her?" he asked in disbelief. "Li Huang's servant scum?"

Jaemin took a deep breath, stretched his neck back as he thought about it.

"Don't waste your energy on him."

He nodded, looked back down at Doyun. He wasn't going to do anything, yet when he spotted the older one's grin, he couldn't help it. He swung his leg back, kicked against his chest. With a gasp, Doyun's torso crashed onto the ground. He groaned in pain, even more so when Jaemin kneeled down next to him, knee on his chest, putting his weight onto him.

"Scum?" he asked as he grabbed his hands. "Speak for yourself, Doyun."

Two clicks and the handcuffs were tightened around his wrists and Doyun made his way downstairs, guided by Jaemin and Jeno.
