Max’s POV

My hand was trembling and my heart was beating really fast. Crowds of people were filling up in front of the shop. Cops were sending Jacque inside the car while Lea was sitting on the sidewalk being comforted by a manager in a shop. I shoved in-between the people surrounding the street. I saw blonde hair flattered around a body. Blood was being washed around it. It laid there lifeless.

“Caylah”

I ran towards it but somehow cops pushed me away from it

Lea’s POV

My stomach was twisting. It kept getting worst as we waited longer at the waiting benches. The doctor went out with a slight smile.

“Caylah will be fine – but her eye-sight is not that well. She might need glasses when she’s gone home. Also – her disease about voice loosening has gone bad. So from now on, she can’t talk”

There was a plan popping in my head but I did my best not to smirk. I grabbed my purse from the table, took the keys and ran to the car. If you were from Asia, you would know my idea right now. But if you’re not interested in anime, then I’ll explain to you later. My ‘new’ phone vibrated in my pocket. I took it out and put it in loudspeaker.

“Nathan. What do you want to talk about now?”

“Why did you drive off? You left us in the hospital”

“Soon you’ll find out and make sure Max is still tranquil”

I hung up and opened my files in the phone where Caylah’s voice was recorded. I used the old memory card from my old phone to save the files I save from the old one. I parked the car outside the library and set on its alarm. If you’re wondering what I’m doing here, this is the reason: I’m installing speech software that Switch uses to talk. The librarian handed me the book of software and walked back to the counter. I handed her my library card and walked back to the car. Caylah needs to get use to this. If you don’t get it – I’ll call this ‘Speech Synthesis’.

Nathan sat down beside me while I was working on the software in my computer. Caylah was sitting on the loveseat while Max was apart from her in the kitchen. Her non-talking was kind of a nightmare to Max. They could have the chance to understand each other but the good thing is that when I finish this hardware – they’ll be back on talking to each other. But I only have five days before I leave for college. Those days might not be enough for me to finish.

“What are you working on?”

I showed Nathan the laptop and put it back on my lap.

“A speech synthesis – Caylah can use this for talking”

He snorted.

“She’s gonna look like a genius carrying a computer everywhere she goes”

I gave him a death glare and put on some few adjustments.

“Done”

“You’re finish?”

I nodded and went up the stairs, when I reached half the stairs I looked at all of them.

“Guys, where’s Caylah?”

They pointed up stairs and to her room.

Max wasn’t even talking to her. He wasn’t even spending time with her or anything. By what they’re doing – it can tear a relationship apart. Caylah’s bedroom door was locked. I knocked on the door and yelled out her name. She unlocked the door and let me inside.

“Are you okay?”

She shook her head and took out her notepad and wrote something on it before flipping it and facing it towards me:

‘I can’t talk. How am I gonna be okay?’

I handed her the laptop and typed in a word.

“Try it – you can still talk while using this”

Max was sitting on the couch all on his own while tapping away on his phone. Tom and Jay were in the kitchen cleaning. Nareesha and Kelsey were out shopping. Paige was in her room having another tantrum. Nathan was no where to be found. Somehow the house was quiet. Caylah was usually the one making all of us hyperactive, sometimes it was Nathan which is, like what I said, no where to be found.

Caylah was just in her room studying the speech synthesis. She was still having trouble understanding the speech synthesis. Awkward, I know. But she needed some time alone. Even away from Max.

“Where in the world is Nathan?”

Tom went out the kitchen wiping off the soap on his hand.

“Even I’m wondering. He’s making his girlfriend worried”

I took out my phone and dialed Nathan’s number. He answered after several rings.

“Nathan James Sykes, where in the world are you? Tom is really worried about you”

“Eleanor – relax I’m just in the beach. Its quiet there, isn’t it? That’s why you want me to go back home or are you really worried”

“Let’s say, both”

He hung up all of a sudden. My jaw dropped when he did that. Oh well – whatever, it’s just the old Nathan.

“What did our baby brother say to you?”

“He hung up on me”

Tom looked at me surprisingly.

“Oh – what have thee done to him?”

“Tom, don’t pretend to be the priest in Romeo and Juliet”

He rolled his eyes playfully and went back to the kitchen.

Nathan was pounding on my door screaming my name every fifteen seconds. I was just ignoring him. There would be stupid things he would do just to get inside my room.

“Eleanor Collins, open the door”

“Nathan James Sykes, be quiet”

I went back to my magazine until someone knocked on my door lightly.

“Who is it?”

“This is Caylah”

I felt amazed of how she got to use the computer to make her talk again. I opened the door to let her inside; her face wasn’t the same; she tied her hair in a ponytail even wearing eyeglasses.
