           Chapter Eighteen

None of them slept soundly that night. The warlock-vampire feared the worst. He'd only gotten to know his father these past two years. His mother sent Magellan away when he was a baby, she feared the vampiric thirst. She did it only to protect her son. Pandora had also been restless. She had many magickal strengths, including empathy. She feared for all of them. Just like Ralvania, she too had never been in the dark realm. She felt the fear and worry from everywhere.

The Empress tried desperately to sleep, but it wasn't happening. She would wake every hour or two. It was as if she'd been cursed with an insomnia spell. She knew what had kept her from sleep, it wasn't a spell. It was worry, fear and paranoia coursing through her. Trying once more, but as it was another failed attempt, she guessed the time to be near five in the morning, got up. Getting dressed quickly, headed to the kitchen for a pot of brew, then to her beloved office. Needing to be good and awake for this event, she sipped down the first cup, then another. She then wrote out a few tips and instructions for her apprentice while she'd be gone. Grabbing her magickal bag, making sure everything she would need made it's way in it.

An hour and a half later, Ambrosia came in to see her.

"I have something for you."

"What is it?"

"Here, for the trip."

She handed a thermos of coffee, a bag of different breads, pastries and apples.

"I'll miss you." The girl said.

"I think I will miss you as well." She said as they heard three loud knocks on the castle door.

Ambrosia dashed across the hall, to the entryway and answered it. As it creaked open, she saw Pandora and Salem, right on time for this adventure.

"Come in, she's in the office." She said, walking them down the hall to meet with her mentor.

"Whenever you're ready." Pandora said.

"I just have to grab my bag- oh no."

"What?"

"I haven't told the dragon."

Salem bellowed with laughter. "Kadrid went to get him, they'll be here in a few minutes."

The three of them waited in the entryway until the servant girl informed them the dragons were ready, about five minutes later. Nodding goodbye to the apprentice, leading them out to see both dragons; were more than ready to go.
