I sit on the park bench unsurprised to be the first one there. Garrett is constantly late and Cassia probably got caught up in one of her taxing responsibilities. "Guess I'm alone." I mutter to myself, leaning my head back and closing my eyes. I pop in my earbuds and let the music overtake me.
It seems to be days before Cassia and Garrett arrive. I open my eyes to see her staring at me, "Hi." I smile.
She brushes the curtain of hair that's falling down behind her ear smiling back at me. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Garrett's here."
"Help me up, will you?" I say, reaching out my hands.
She grabs them quickly, the sensation of our skin touching sending sparks up my arm. It's always nice with Cassia. She pulls me up and soon her soft hands are gone. I reach for them again, longing for that comfort but find that someone else is holding me.
"Let's go for a walk then." The voice almost annoys me.
Garrett. I groan in my head angrily. He's the one holding my hand. His mouth must run nonstop when I'm around because there is no silence with him. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes you need the life of a party. But there are times when you just want peace and quiet, sometimes you just want to be holding Cassia's ha- What am I saying?
Garrett speaks as we walk. "So, have you seen that new movie about the couple that falls out of love but reconciles after getting a dog?"
I almost throw up at the thought of watching such a sappy film. "Ugh, no."
Garrett blushes as he speaks, only confusing me more. "Oh, well then do you want to come see it with m-"
I cut him off, not even listening to him. "I hate those types of movies." I turn to Cassia. "Hey, Cass' would you ever watch that dumb dog-romance movie that came out?"
She ponders this for a moment. "Maybe," She says, looking at Garrett. She turns to meet my gaze. "But I'd much rather sit in a dark room, watching a demon get exorcised out of some random kid in a barn."
I laugh at her reference. "Horror movies do have better plots. And if you ever get scared, I would gladly offer my hand to hold." I tease her, grabbing her wrist.
Garrett cuts between us. "Still, we should watch that dog movie. We can-" His voice strains.
"We can laugh at it." He seems to only be asking me.I see Cassia's offput demeanor. "I'll go if Cassia's coming. Maybe she'll get scared of a dog's bark or something and will have to hold my hand." I tease again.
"Shut up." She snaps, slapping my hand. She tries to pull away before I grab the hand that slapped me and intertwine our fingers but she's too late. "Let me go and talk with your real date."
I let go of her hand and move to Garrett as he turns bright red. I whisper in her ear before moving away from her. "I already told you that this isn't Garrett and my date."
She smiles deviously. "And I already told you to shut up, but here we are."
I smirk at her and move away, following her wishes. Garrett tries to talk to me but I'm not interested. He sighs, "I went to a swim meet a few days ago. You know, the one that our school's team went to?"
"Cool." I nodded, keeping a smile on my face but glancing back at Cassia when I could.
Garrett continued, not noticing my disinterest. "There were so many hot guys there, I might ask one out."
"That's good." I say, barely comprehending what he's saying.
"Wait," He stops in his tracks, "you aren't jealous?"
