"So, DayJay. Do you know magic?"
"Um... only the basic stuff... I never learnt more experienced magic, because last time I used experienced magic, I ended up slicing my brothers neck open."
"Oh."
"He's fine! He's fine, don't worry, still alive!"
"Okay. So. You know the basics?"
"Teleportation, changing colours of things, stuff like that."
"Well, maybe I could teach you more magic."
"Really?"
"Absolutely!"
"That would be so awesome, thank you!"
"No problem! It's what friends do, right?"
"Right!"
"Okay, well, since your sort of a beginner, why don't we start with something simple?"
"Okay."
"Do you know how to summon things?"
"Yes."
"That's good! And... do you know how to... turn lights on and off?"
"With a switch..."
"You could do it without having to get up, to turn the switch off, I mean."
"Oh."
"So, we need to teach you telekinesis. And then maybe telepathy. To have more private conversations."
"Ooh! That sounds fun!"....

I managed to find Ruth's house. I returned to them the items Evan took from them.

For Zilévo, it was her precious jewellery that he took and kept so that she would be envious of anyone he gave them to. I got them all back. It only cost me a few thousand dollars in total, so not a complete loss.

For Augustus, it was his will to stop eating constantly.

For Lucy, it was her life.

And now I'm at Ruth's house, with her wings and horns, and a spell to reconnect them.

I knock on the door and she answers, and a smile creeps across her face and she hugs me, "hello, my friend! You are not dead!"
"Nope! And I have a present!"
"You do?"
"Yes! Can I come in?"
"Of course, I'll get the vodka out."
"Ooh, vodka!"
"Yes, it may be a stereotype for Russians to drink vodka, but I can't help drinking the stuff, it's too good."
"I can agree!"

She leads me inside and I sit in her living room and she goes down to the cellar.

She comes back up with a few bottles, puts them onto the table and goes into the kitchen.

I put the box next to me and text Sam to let him know that I might be home a bit late, as I'm with Ruth and she's just brought up several bottles of vodka from the cellar.

He's fine with it, and offers to pick me up later and call him when he needs me.

I thank him and put my phone down.

Ruth walks back in with two glasses.

"We getting drunk?" I ask.
"Well, I don't think either of us have work tomorrow, so why not? I know I don't!"
"I'll check."

I check my calendar for any extra shifts. Nope.

"Yeah, I don't have work tomorrow."
"Wonderful!"
"Present?"
"Oh yes! Yes, yes! Pass please!"

I hand her the box carefully, as it's a big box.

She sets it on her lap and opens it.

She puts the spell on the table and runs her fingers along the deep cherry red feathers.

She tears up, "you didn't have to do this..."
"I promised I would."

Her wings look slightly metallic.

She picks up the spell and reads it out.

When she's done, the same deep metallic cherry red colour encircles her and when it clears, she has the wings and horns and the box is empty.

She wraps herself up in her wings and sits there, looking slightly up and surprised.

"Damien Jean... I... thank you..."
"You're welcome."
